Why do some people give up self-custody and go back to exchanges?
Fear of losing their keys or having them stolen. 🛡️
We built Hashwallet so you don't have to choose between self-custody and security.

Reason 4: The card alone doesn't hold complete keys.
When you generate or import a seed, Hashwallet automatically creates a cryptographic element that works like a passphrase. It's stored encrypted in your app.
So the keys inside the chip aren't complete on their own. Even if someone managed to compromise a card, they wouldn't have everything they need to access your funds.
Reason 3: Your keys can't leave the chip.
The Ledger implant captured the recovery phrase at the moment it was shown on the screen during setup.
Hashwallet has no screen, and its firmware has no commands to display or export your keys. They're generated or imported inside the chip, and they stay there. And since the firmware can't be updated, nobody can add a way out later.

Reason 2: No casing.
To hide the implant, the tampered Ledger devices were opened, modified and closed again. They still arrived sealed and passed the authenticity check.
The Hashwallet card has no casing to open. The chip is embedded inside the card, so there's nowhere to hide malicious hardware.
Reason 1: No battery.
The implant found in the tampered Ledger devices needed power to send the recovery phrase over the mobile network. It got it from the device itself: the original battery had been replaced with a smaller one that powered both the device and the implant.
The Hashwallet card has no battery. It runs on the energy your phone sends through NFC while you scan it, and that isn't enough to power a hidden SIM.
If you're a Hashwallet user, you may have been wondering whether your Hashwallet is safe. Well, it is. But let's look at how the security works together.
Ledger confirmed that devices sold through a reseller were physically tampered with before reaching buyers. Inside, a hidden circuit board with a microcontroller, an LTE module, and a tiny eSIM had been added. The devices arrived sealed and passed Ledger's authenticity check, and when users set up their wallet, the implant read the 24-word recovery phrase shown on the screen and sent it to the attackers over the mobile network.
This attack doesn't work on Hashwallet, and here's why:
1. No battery. The Hashwallet card has no battery. It runs on the energy your phone sends through NFC while you scan it, which isn't enough to power a hidden implant like the one found in the Ledger devices.
2. There's no casing to hide malicious hardware in.
3. Your keys cannot leave the chip. The Hashwallet firmware has no commands to expose or display keys. Keys are generated or imported inside the chip, and they don't leave it. Since the firmware can't be updated, malicious updates can't add a way out.
4. The card alone doesn't hold complete keys. When you generate or import a seed, Hashwallet automatically creates a cryptographic element that works like a passphrase. It's stored encrypted in the app, so the keys inside the chip aren't complete on their own.
5. Each card has its own encryption. Every card uses a different encryption schema, so breaking one card gives no advantage over the rest. This makes large-scale attacks cumbersome and economically unattractive.

Thousands of assets. Multiple seeds. One card. ✅
And if you lose it, you get your keys back without handing them to anyone.

@EstrategiasTv covers how you can manage thousands of assets, keep separate seeds for different purposes and recover access without giving up self-custody.
What happens when you lose your cold wallet? Or your seed phrase?
@99BitcoinsHQ just published a full review of Hashwallet, and that's exactly what they looked into 🧵
🔐 Your keys are generated and stay inside an EAL6+ secure chip.
✅ Signing happens inside the chip
✅ Keys never leave the chip
✅ Chip firmware can't be modified after manufacturing
🛡️ Lost your card? Order a backup card from the app and regenerate your keys inside its chip. No seed phrase needed, and your keys aren't handed to anyone.
♾️ Multiple seeds on one card. Generate seedless keys or import your existing BIP39 phrases. Keep your savings, daily spending and dApp activity separated, so your whole history isn't linked together.
The review also covers inheritance without sharing keys, WalletConnect, thousands of assets (Qubic and Kaspa included), and how Hashwallet compares to other cold wallets.
