Matt knows better than anyone that one of the major tasks of politics today is bucking the influence of "the Groups." El-Sayed waged a facial attack on a major group (AIPAC) and won. This is consequential for the future of geopolitics! If it cost a few points in 2026, it's ok!
Replying to @EricLevitz
Yes it’s not surprising that progressive intellectuals really like him and also not surprising that politicians who are super-appealing to progressive intellectuals aren’t the best at winning votes.
What is crazy is the number of progressive intellectuals who can’t see this.
If the ONLY thing you want is a Dem win, running centrists is wise. But if you have substantive moral commitments, you might prefer progressives. Abdul is a national breakthru in voicing opposition to israeli crimes and taking on AIPAC. His win is 2026's most IMPACTFUL.
Adam Hamilton is a centrist pastor running in Kansas and only underperformed El-Sayed (running in the most blue-leaning swing state) by 1.5 points. Given the environment and the political tilt of their respective states, the two worst performing Democratic Senate winners were El-Sayed and Troy Jackson
I don't point shit like this out just to make it clear that the left is delusional (although I do enjoy that) but it's just absurd that this Democratic Senate class is actually *more conservative* than the Democratic Senate class it is replacing because of Democratic victories in Kansas, Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio, and possibly Alaska and Mississippi and yet the left thinks we should defer to them because they gave us our two biggest underperformers in races anyone would have won in this environment
In terms of margin of victory, El-Sayed underperformed every other statewide Democrat who was up for election in Michigan
So looks like Dems will flip 9 Senate seats: Mississippi, Alaska, Kansas, Texas, Ohio, Maine, South Carolina, North Carolina, Iowa. The last time Dems flipped that many seats was: 1958 under Eisenhower
We also have to thank the racist posters in Africa, India, Pakistan, etc for setting the vibes for this election
I’ve come to think @elonmusk ended up doing Dems and progressives a huge favor by turning this place into a fetid swamp of feral right wing freaks where the most prominent members of their coalition post like cartoon movie villains and think it makes them look cool.
Trump is the second Republican president in a row to have his presidency destroyed because he gave carte blanche to hawks. And the third president this has happened to in the 21st century. How many times will this have to happen for the political elite to learn?
The midterm result is worst of all for the hawks, who treated US and Israeli interests as one and the same, and took the aspirations and tone of Israel’s far Right as a guide for US policy.
It all just went too far.
Voters effectively said enough. unherd.com/2026/11/its-the-w…
Did you ever doubt the plan?
In 1970, the White population in Texas was 89%.
In 2000, it was 50%.
Now it’s less than 39%.
Demographics is destiny.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
In 1970 the White population included Hispanic people because surveys in Texas didn't ask about Hispanic ethnicity as a separate question from race. In 2000 the White population for just race was 71%. Today White is 74% and "White, not Hispanic" sorted for ethnic origin is 37%. census.gov/quickfacts/TX
Betting markets are by far the best info aggregator as election results roll in. Transforms the election night experience. I’m hours ahead of normies.
Grateful for right wing fools like this who encouraged the Trump admin to stoke inflation with tariff wars, creating one of the best midterm environments for Dems in decades. Secret progressive?!
It’s insane that this open racist slander against Muslims is now de rigeur in the once esteemed Atlantic magazine. Trump obviously brought down standards of decency on the right. But why has this happened to the lib-center?
Abdul El-Sayed isn’t the only Islamist running in this election. Read @powellAtlantic on the slippery Adam Hamawy @theAtlantic

Who would have ever guessed that a fanatical Zionist from Bari Weiss' site was deployed to Haley Stevens' house along with her suddenly materialized Zionist finacé on the night before she endorsed Mike Rogers?
What an amazing and totally unexpected jouranlistic scoop!
EXCLUSIVE: I Interviewed Haley Stevens at 11 PM on Her Fiancé’s Couch. Here’s Why She Broke with Abdul El-Sayed.
