Dec 23, 1936. Washington. The Interstate Commerce Commission tells truck drivers they must be able to "read and speak the English language." English Language Proficiency turns 90 this year and that alone will shock most people. An Origin Story 🧵

Hell Bent Xpress had the honor to be a part of Mack Trucks On-Highway Customer Council. We discussed pain points and what an OEM could do better to help. I love that they sat 14 of us fleet owners down to learn more of what they could do besides just supply amazing trucks. We ended the 2 days with a plant tour, and wow have they really made changes to that factory. Also, the Pioneer looks like a tank without an interior installed. Its shocking how much steel is in that cab. One could say its built like a Mack even. 👊
I ended my tour of the @MackTrucks factory in Macungie, PA with the beautiful site of our last Pioneer getting ready to ship to us.

Would the US government allow such a truck to be imported?

The darker the green the keener the your machine. On average diesel fuel dips 11 cents per gallon tonight. Oregon is the big winner tomorrow at 21 cents.

The 2027 emissions system comes with its own 48 volt alternator and power system to operate the heaters in the DPF. Couple hundred pounds and $15,000 extra is all. Thank you government. Mack definitely did a great job of doing what the EPA asked for. Looks to be a simple system.

I have a tendency to wake up early. Only 2 hours to go before the great Mack Truck Consumer Council commences. I'm here at the historical Hotel Bethlehem, enjoying some cool Pennsylvania culture. Anything special I should bring up with them later today? So far I have, are Macks too manly and intimidate others?

I've always said I had to go to work to relax 😆
😴 Longer Rest Breaks Are Producing More Crashes. J.B. Hunt’s safety team pulled its own telematics data and found that the longer a driver’s 34-hour reset ran, the more likely a crash became in the following 6 to 12 hours back on the road. Isaac Instruments’ Melanie Simard, a former driver, said the pattern didn’t surprise her: with 48 hours at home, she used to try to do everything “very, very fast” and came back with little real rest. J.B. Hunt responded by creating an educational video to help drivers talk with their families about getting real rest at home. Image Source: Henderson Taylor Law Firm News Source: Truck News

The fuel yo-yo keeps rolling. On average diesel fuel drops 10 cents tonight. Unless you're in Utah, than screw you its going up 5 cents. The big winners are IL and MI with a 41 cent drop.

Truck-photo.com/shop < link to shop Spend your hard earned dollars with me in this inflationary environment and in return you’ll receive 1 or more but not a number to exceed 170 truck photography calendars. Don’t want to buy 1 or 170? No wall space? The calendar doesn’t fit into your highly curated space and it would upset the “vibe”? No problem! Buy 1 or more for your friends/family/clients/enemies. Still not opening up your wallet? Fine. I tried. Please like and RT this post with your network as that helps and won’t cost you but 5 seconds of your time. I know time is finite and I hope my time here sharing my work has earned me 5 seconds. Thanks! #trucking

@Hillarymhagen went on a rant today; and it's worth reading.... I sat down to write a recruiting ad and instead wrote a rant. I deleted it, rewrote it, deleted it again, and here we are. Apparently I've got something to say. STOP BLAMING DRIVERS FOR LEAVING JOBS THAT NEVER EXISTED. Trucking loves to complain about drivers jumping from company to company. Heck, I used to see it as a red flag on applications. But over the years I've realized job jumping is the SYMPTOM. Here's my hot take: TRUCKING DOESN'T HAVE A DRIVER LOYALTY PROBLEM. IT HAS A BROKEN PROMISE PROBLEM. Drivers aren't changing companies because they love orientation videos and drug tests. They're leaving because what they were sold and what they got were two different things. Then they're blamed for walking away. Companies keep peddling recruiting fairy tales, leaving drivers to figure out which promises are worth believing. At Hell Bent Xpress, I believe loyalty starts before the first load. It starts with telling the truth. NO BAIT. NO SWITCH. NO RECRUITING FAIRY TALES. Trucking isn't all sunshine and rainbows. Freight changes. Some weeks are better than others. Plans go sideways. Experienced drivers know that. We're not perfect, and we won't tell you whatever you want to hear just to get your ass in a truck. We'll tell you what you can realistically expect and let YOU decide if we're right for you. KEEPING DRIVERS SHOULDN'T START WITH BIGGER PROMISES. IT SHOULD START WITH KEEPING THE ONES YOU MAKE. And drivers? You deserve honest answers, but you've got to ask tough questions, too. Ask about the bad weeks. Ask what happens when plans fall apart. Don't let anyone sell you a dream without asking what happens when reality shows up. If you're considering Hell Bent Xpress, ask us those same questions. I'D RATHER HAVE AN EMPTY SEAT THAN FILL IT WITH A BROKEN PROMISE. Ready for a different recruiting conversation? Call me directly at 605-982-0284. End rant.
