We celebrate Dr. Cornelius Sendagire, Consultant Cardiac Anaesthesiologist and Intensivist at the Uganda Heart Institute, upon the successful completion of his PhD, passed without corrections, at the D'Or Institute for Research and Education (IDOR), Brazil.
Dr. Sendagire holds an MBChB and MMed (Anaesthesia and Critical Care) from Mak and completed his Fellowship in Cardiac Anaesthesia and Critical Care at the Magdi Yacoub Heart Centre in Egypt and the Uganda Heart Institute.
His PhD research focused on the potentially modifiable determinants of outcome among invasively ventilated patients in Uganda, drawing on a nationwide, registry-embedded study across all 19 intensive care units. It showed that survival is shaped substantially by the care and organisation around the patient, not by illness severity alone, and identified practical, low-cost targets to improve ICU outcomes in low-resource settings.
He is a leading expert in critical care medicine and cardiac anaesthesia.
