Thanks to our new partners at Kaymont, the provider of meteorological balloons to NOAA, and ScientificSales, the @reconwx mission lives on. I’m out here today for this tornado risk.

TORNADOES POSSIBLE today, so Recon Weather has a mission: get our instruments into the storm environment to test their systems prior to our big 2027 operation. We’re targeting northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas, focusing on any supercells that develop. The plan: 🎈 Launch one GPS-only radiosonde, ideally in storm inflow, to measure winds with height and wind shear. We build these sondes. The ones in testing today are not standard thermodynamic profile sondes, these are super tiny and light. They just do wind speed and direction with height. We can fly them on a very small, 20 gram weather balloon from our parters at Kaymont. 📍 Deploy at least one Isopod to record rapid and high resolution pressure changes. 🌡️ Deploy at least one Thermopod, which is an Isopod with temperature and humidity sensors, to collect those measurements alongside pressure. Those are our objectives. Where and when we deploy will depend on how storms evolve and where we can safely get the equipment into position. We’re also $555 away from today’s fundraising milestone: $2,000 total raised toward our $25,000 equipment goal. Your support helps buy the filament, circuit boards, sensors, and components that keep these builds moving. It is super expensive to run this operation on the limited funding we have. If you’d like to help close that gap, our GoFundMe is linked at reconwx.org. Please also download an use our app. We’ll report back after the chase with what we deployed, what we collected, and where the fundraiser stands. Thanks for helping us get this work into the field. @reconwx

Remember, the only app you'll find my live stream on is @reconwx . It's free and features all of our team members. We've worked out in-app tipping/support for chasers, too. Really trying to make this give back what people put in. Next time you see some of our friends streaming, remember that they're volunteering for this research mission and if you so choose, you can support them in-app or via their direct tipping links.

On the way for a potential severe weather episode tomorrow. Our @reconwx Field Team now streams in our own app. It’s free, no subscriptions needed. I’ve got a few pieces of equipment with to test tomorrow. We will go over them later.

2.1 is in the wild, both platforms. I’m sensing impending doom of an existing, once popular radar app, so I’m putting every bit of liquid financials I have into this thing. I want departing users to have 100% free access to ALL features that they’ve come to enjoy. We’ve increased capacity recently and 2.2 will be coming with more models, more options and a bigger social platform. You can now also financially support our chasers right in the app. @reconwx

Development update from here at @reconwx . We are very thankful for reaching and exceeding the first $1,000 of our fundraiser goal the other day. We're at 6% of the $25,000 goal.

Get notified of National Weather Service Tornado Warnings, Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, and more, when seconds count, via or FREE app. In Recon Weather, open the menu at the top left → Settings → Notifications. • Enable location tracking for alerts near you. • Check that your saved Alert Zones are turned on. • Under Urgent, turn on Tornado Warning and choose your tone. • Want the countdown? Enable Warning countdown on Lock Screen. It's important to still have your NOAA weather radio, but we know that's not practical to carry in your pocket.
