So social emotional learning is twirling in its new tutu across Utah in the form of The Dignity Index, which scores schoolkids & adults on the “correctness” of their speech
A short 🧵 on how *conservative* Utah is ground zero for making Chinese-Marxist speech policing go viral

For TEENS reading on a third grade level, Newberry High School offers "Charmed", a "high-interest, low-reading level" novel in which a girl is lured by a "great looking school dropout" who "sells her into prostitution."
Because nothing says "we believe in you" like stearing struggling readers toward the track. @alachuaschools, maybe aim a little higher?
(And third grade parents, you might want to keep an eye on what your kid is reading. Just because it's on their level does not mean it's appropriate for them.)

🚨Are you a concerned Utahn and have wondered how you can help or get involved?
Here is an opportunity.
When the state overcharges for public records it's always because they're hiding something, seriously. 👀
I'm helping raise $850 for a new public record request. I just posted about how the state overcharged me $10,000 dollars for records that exposed DEI and other 🥩 dinner scams.
Now they want to charge over $2000 this time, so the request was scaled down but it's still not cheap, so I'm asking for help!
Please donate whatever you can so we can get eyes ASAP on these thousands of critical documents they're holding back on. If we're right we'll need a dump truck for all the dirt that will come out. 🚛 Venmo: @fight4freedom (last 4 numbers of phone - 0990)
That time in 2021 that I paid $10,000 for a GRAMA request because I knew Spencer Cox and state education officials were using COVID relief funds to implement a DEI and LGBTQ agenda in Utah schools.
As an angry and concerned mom watching the mandates and the sudden flood of federal money, I suspected the pandemic was being treated as cover for preferred-pronoun policies, anti-racism training, equity offices, and identity-focused curriculum that parents never voted for. Once the records arrived, the steep price made sense; they showed exactly how the recovery dollars and the post-Floyd moment were leveraged to lock those practices in.
ESSER stands for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief fund. These were the main federal COVID relief packages for K-12 schools: the first round under the 2020 CARES Act, a second under the CRRSA Act, and the largest under the 2021 American Rescue Plan (ARP ESSER). The money was intended to address learning loss, improve school ventilation and technology, support student mental health, and cover other pandemic-related costs.
Utah received more than $873 million in total ESSER funding across the three rounds; roughly $62 million in ESSER I, $250 million in ESSER II, and $562 million in ARP ESSER with the bulk distributed to local districts and charters based on Title I formulas.
The records I obtained showed that while the funds were labeled for COVID recovery, state and local officials used portions of them to build equity infrastructure, stand up culturally responsive training, and advance related DEI initiatives, exactly the shift I had suspected when I filed the request.
The pages detailed how the Utah State Board of Education planned to distribute ARP ESSER funds, 90 percent based on Title I allocations, with required Maintenance of Equity assurances while embedding equity structures throughout the recovery.
An internal Culturally Responsive and Equitable Workplace Steering Committee was created. Quarterly Equity Leader Meetings, Equity Labs, and ongoing technical assistance to districts were listed as standing mechanisms. Committee notes recorded Chair Benally-Sagg stating that the governor supported the racial-equity and inclusivity training and wanted members to know the governor’s office backed it.
The same records captured return-to-school discussions that treated the pandemic, economic fallout, and post-George Floyd racial unrest as simultaneous crises, with officials describing the need for leaders to examine their own implicit bias before schools could become “anti-racist” or “culturally responsive.”
“Best practices” materials treated preferred names, pronouns, gender-inclusive forms, bathrooms, locker rooms, flags, and stickers as standard markers of support.
Taken together, the documents show COVID recovery funds being used to institutionalize these practices inside Utah’s education system, with explicit state-level support noted from the governor’s office.
And yet 13 of the Board's Republicans vote hand-in-hand with Democrat Sarah Reale the overwhelming majority of the time.
Oh Utah. 🙄
The @VoteSLCo dropped ballots in the mail today.
☎️ I received a couple of frantic phone calls from neighbors, wondering why my name was not on the ballot.
🐘 I had to tell them that I was the @UtahGOP nominee for @UTBoardofEd Dist. 5.
☠️ And back in May @SLCountyGOP Chairman @MikeCarey4CC sabotaged my campaign, forcing me to withdraw my name from the ballot.
🗳️ Carey had four months to submit the name of a new GOP candidate to the @LGHendersonUtah to replace me on the ballot.
⚾️ Carey dropped the ball, handing Democrat Sarah Reale a sure path to victory.
So hear us out. This teacher has a point. If she's trying to teach the right way and the kids are struggling with the most basic of basics than that's not good, parents need to know the hazards of sending their kids to school tabula rasa.
BUT...
Schools have brought on this learned helplessness by infantilizing parents AND by complicating the basics.
We didn't need Common Core math. All that did was alienate parents from helping their kids do the basics because now it's Fancy Feast instead of addition and subtraction.
We didn't need Common Core English. Kids are stuck with the most stupid, pedantic reading selections and excepts on the planet instead of wholesome, witty writing. Plus the nonsense words are idiotic. If literacy is making meaning out of the written word and using the written word to make meaning then nonsense words don't help that cause.
When schools position themselves as the "experts" and condescend to parents every step of the way, it's no wonder we get this kind of dysfunction.
Sorry to this teacher, it's a bad time to be in the profession.
American teacher breaks down into tears because teaching American elementary school students has become so hard
🚨 She says she only has 1 student out of 34 kids who passed
She says it’s gotten so bad, “I literally put the word on the board. I write it on the board and I say copy it, and they're copying it wrong — it's almost scary because you're like, dude — then you start questioning yourself. You're like, is it me? Like, what?
— I'm exhausted”
“I’m exhausted — like, there's some days that I like doing it, but man, to do that every single day it's exhausting — Breaks my heart”
She extremely frustrated because she knows by the way the students are performing that their parents are not doing what they are supposed to be doing with their kids
It comes down to the parents. Our education system and parents are failing our kids. I remember going to school and everyone had to behave, everyone had to learn and do the work to pass, you weren’t even given an option
We have gotten too soft and there needs to be punishments and accountability again
A tsunami of AI, SEL, mental health interventions, and character transcripts tied to workforce readiness. It's gonna be rougher then rough to be a kid as the globalist ghouls figure out how to monetize every aspect of your existence.
Govt-funded school choice always means more oversight & regulation because there's never funding w/o accountability. There's no rolling it back once it's in place.
Homeschoolers ≠ *scholarship* students, but the conflation will drag homeschool OGs down with those who take the money. Just sickening. We tried our best in Utah, but too many got cold feet and protected their relationships with lawmakers instead of protecting homeschoolers.

BEWARE OF THE OMBUDSMAN pg 71
Proof Page Number in ESSA for private, religious, & homeschools will be forced to comply to federal strings under the banner of equity. Federal choice money given to a parent ESA would force private schools to succumb to an ombudsman from the state
Could be wrong, but thinking he's talking about this kind of *professional* development?
Millions and millions of dollars are spent on professional development in schools, much of it an utter waste of time. Useless icebreakers, infantilizing activities for trained professionals, and endless PowerPoint presentations that offer little value.
I’m still waiting for a professional development session that actually develops me professionally.
If you've ever wondered what the LGBTQ and DEI grooming squarely aimed at kids looks like in the classrooms behind closed doors, wonder no more ...
Oh, and teachers get state license points and credit for attending conferences like this in Utah.
youtu.be/RIR7fqtjO9I?is=nfw7…
So we've been talking about this for some time, how education credentialing systems will be weaponized against homeschoolers and whaddya know?
Here in Utah, we had two lawmakers over the last two years try to turn Lifeguard training & swim instruction certification over to the schools to do. If either of those bills had passed, kids would be forced to enroll in school to have a shot at becoming poolside David Hasselhoffs.
And just wait til you hear about the student credentialing accounts that will gatekeep kids out of certain professions unless they jump through the workbased-learning hoops through the schools first.
Public schools are well on their way to destroying private education, guys.
🚨#BREAKING: Outrage is erupting after a 22-year-old who runs into BURNING BUILDINGS as a volunteer firefighter was told he isn't qualified to be a paid firefighter...
...because he was HOMESCHOOLED.
Then the city changed the job posting to cover it up.
His name is Andrew Coates. He's 22 years old, in Nebraska.
Right now, today, he runs into burning buildings as a volunteer firefighter for Cedar Bluffs Fire. He is a state-licensed EMT.
He is doing the job. For free.
All he wanted was to get PAID to do it. In his words: "Make a career out of it would be the goal. To get paid to do what you love."
So he applied to the Fremont Fire Department.
And in April, the city rejected him. Why?
Because his high school diploma says he was homeschooled.
That's it. That's the whole disqualification.
Not his EMT license.
Not his fitness.
Not his record.
Not his experience pulling people out of fires ALREADY!!
...how he was educated.
The job posting he applied to said "graduation from high school."
That's all it said.
He graduated high school.
He has a diploma.
And AFTER they rejected him, the city went back and added the word "accredited" to the job description.
His own fire chief, the man who has watched Andrew work, showed up to defend him:
"I feel the city of Fremont is really missing out here, and in my mind, because of his homeschooling, you guys are discriminating against him."
Over THIRTY homeschool families showed up to stand behind this kid.
And the Civil Service Commission? They said it isn't their job to touch city policy.
Homeschoolers are literally a generation of kids who read ABOVE grade level, who work with their HANDS, who volunteer in their communities, who show up for their neighbors.
And this young man is the proof.
At 22, he's a certified EMT and a volunteer firefighter, while plenty of his peers are on a couch.
When your house is on fire at 3 a.m., I promise you will not ask the man dragging your children out where he went to high school.
You will not ask if his diploma was accredited.
You will thank GOD he came.
Andrew isn't even fighting for himself anymore. His words:
"I think now it's turned into we want to make sure that every homeschooler has an equal opportunity."
That's a better man than the policy that rejected him.
Fremont, you have a licensed EMT and an active firefighter begging to serve your city. And you turned him down over paperwork, then rewrote the paperwork to cover it.
Fix this.
Hire him!!!!!!!
They are doing the exact same thing with literacy...
- overcomplicated processes
- assessments measuring the wrong thing
- denial that this makes kids hate the things they're supposed to learn
How about we stop trusting the SCIENCE that makes this idiocy possible, hm?
The way young kids are being taught math today is beyond insane
This American is helping her daughter with her homework. It’s about counting fish
You just have to see this math problem to try and understand it for yourself…. Again this is for little kids
“I'm just trying to figure out how they gonna come up with 3, or 7, or what is this? The AI create this? — I don't see a correct answer, or this is new math”
The math being caught here is called “doubles.” You’re just supposed to find 2 numbers that equal an answer closest to the amount of fish…. It makes no sense
Apparently it’s will help kids stop counting with their fingers but to me this is just way more confusing
