Here is what the original creator of the tag said. A lot of people don't know the true definition of meaning behind it.

I think the best site to “doomscroll” is tumblr
1. Remaining ppl on tumblr are 30 and have jobs
2. Can have posts with multiple paragraphs for nuanced thoughts instead of getting misinterpreted
3. No random people im not following on my feed
4. Mute system works better

in these troubling times (possible month without ao3) let’s all thank our volunteers who keep the website going for all of us ❤️ society collapses without you, thank you for your hard work!!!!!
We estimate that service restoration for #AO3 will take around 2 weeks but it could be up to 4 weeks. We are hopeful that we will be able to bring the site back up in a degraded state sooner. Refer to our status page for updates: otwstatus.org/

let's all use this time to reflect bc the instant misery people express when they can't access fic for just 12 hours is at odds with the slew of ungrateful/judgemental posts from readers i am seeing far too frequently atm
#AO3 maintenance is in progress. We expect it to take at least 12 hours, but it may take longer. We will provide updates as necessary. Refer to our status page for updates: otwstatus.org/incidents/g12j…

to be fair, ao3 ALWAYS gives out warnings before they do maintenance, the fact they shut down today no warning and now are saying it could take up to a month to fix. tells me there’s something really wrong. ): thankful for the support team always keeping us updated though

people asking why ao3 didn’t give a heads up. imo the issue is unexpected to them too. they always give a heads up in the past
that said, ao3 is run by VOLUNTEERS. they don’t get paid. please be kind, patient and respectful to them
thank you ao3 volunteers for all that you do

last time ao3 was down was 72hs because of a CYBERATTACK so what the actual hell happened now that it has to shut down for TWO WHOLE WEEKS AT LEAST i'm so curious

If you have the url for the fic you want to read you can download it through here :) this is my contribution today fichub.net/

in case anyone needs a refresher: you can paste a fics URL into the wayback machine and read it as if you are on AO3. only catch is that newer fics are less likely to be archived.
