funny how I was asking this exact question yesterday.
I was asking grok why some of the biggest hacks we hear about are always crypto related.
traditional banks obviously hold way more money, trillions in fact, yet we don’t hear about hacks on the same scale as often.
grok’s explanation was that it’s easier to move stolen crypto. send it across wallets, mix it, bridge it and potentially cash out.
in traditional finance, there’s more scrutiny, identity verification, transaction monitoring and the ability to freeze accounts.
got me thinking, securing an open financial system is a much bigger challenge than we realise.
