My paper, started during the first year of graduate school at @UCLAEPSS, has finally been published! We confirm and improve several trace element thermobarometers. Check it out! @BABgeo sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Are you interested in high temperature geochemistry, igneous petrology, or early Earth and plan to attend graduate school? I'm planning to take students (M.S. and PhD) this Fall, so reach out if you're interested! #Geology

A 🧵 on burnout Yesterday I learned that when people are burnt out, their amygdala enlarges. For all you non-neuroscientists, here's what that means and why it's important. 1/ #AcademicChatter @AcademicChatter @CouragePhD

I received a similar email when I applied to graduate school. I doubt that the person who wrote it remembers, but I certainly do.
I need to acknowledge our director of grad studies @GregoryRSL for treating all students—current, past, accepted, & rejected—with the kindness that academia can so sadly lack. He’s going viral on Reddit for his thoughtful rejection letters, & I hope other programs follow suit.

We had volcanics before you were even a sparkle in Earth's eye. – at Michigan, USA
You know what’s weak? A state with no volcanoes. Michigan is one of those states.

We only rate dogs. These are clearly giant pandas. Please understand that the word giant can also be in reference to the size of their hearts, and only send dogs. Thank you… 13/10 for both

I'm still disappointed you all eliminated toxic cinnabar, so I (and urge you to) vote for #Arsenuranospathite, a mineral that has both U and As #MinCup23

My longshot favorite Cinnabar was voted out, so I vote for #Adamite in remembrance of Cinnabar's toxicity. #MinCup23
#MinCup23 Round 1 Match 10 is a pair of A+ minerals associated with alterations: guano-born sky-blue #Ammineite vs pale arsenic-rich #Adamite lurking near weathered zinc deposits. Vote: mineralcup.org/2023/campaign… Results: mineralcup.org/results/round…

❌Lawsonite (and it's fellow schisty minerals) made me cry during mineral identification as an undergrad. ✅Corundum (ruby) is pretty Vote #Corundum #MinCup23
