Still reeling from the loss of Jim. He was my mentor, MA advisor, collaborator, colleague, and friend. The world will be a little darker without him.
The @CityofMadison is mourning the loss of State Archaeologist, Dr. Jim Skibo. Jim worked w/ Wisconsin’s Native Nations on the historic recovery of two canoes – one 1,200 years old the other 3,000 years old. It was a privilege to know him. Condolences to his family and his team @WisconsinHistory.
I’m pretty excited about this panel. Come join the fun!

What a great season! I’m very grateful for such wonderful students and opportunities.
Well, that’s a wrap for the 2022 field season at the Gehring site. We had a great last week, including visits to @CahokiaMounds and @ILStateArch excavations, atlatl throwing, and a pizza party (along with excavations and backfilling, of course).
We had a great time bringing high school students to @SIUE for hands-on experience with field-based science!

Pretty excited about my replica Venus of Willendorf from @Pottedhistory. I’ve been wanting one of these for a while!

Totally enraptured by this video showing the art of "letter locking," in which European monarchs and nobility would seal away confidential info from spies

This was such a fun event!!
Fantastic event yesterday co-hosted by @SIUEAnthClub and our Public Archaeology class. @SIUE students were able to participate in a mock archaeological excavation or play the Indigenous American game of Chunkey.
Does anyone know of any good, short readings, diagrams, or videos that talk about preservation of different materials in the archaeological record? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
