It’s been hours and I’m still thinking about this dude. Why was he bleeding? Didn’t hesitate to flip the bird as well. Proper fan.

iv'e always found this to be one of his more uplifting songs but it's meaning, backstory and lyrics are very much to the contrary he left LA in 1976 after suffering a severe creative and physical breakdown brought on by relentless touring and heavy drug use and headed for Berlin to record Low, the first of a trilogy He later described the track as 'the ultimate retreat song, born from a deep desire to be placed in a small, quiet space with omnipotent blue on the walls' David Bowie - Sound and Vision (Live in 1990) ▢️

"So Lonely" is from The Police's 1978 album Outlandos d'Amour. The reggae-infused rock song was initially overlooked, but after the band's breakthrough it was re-released in 1980, reaching #27 on the UK Singles Chart and #6 in Ireland. Sting has said the lyrics were inspired by the loneliness he experienced after the end of his first marriage, giving the upbeat song a surprisingly melancholic theme.

An a cappella cover was an unlikely way to score a Christmas number one, but that's exactly what The Housemartins achieved. Their joyful version of "Caravan of Love," originally recorded by Isley-Jasper-Isley, showcased the band's rich harmonies and proved they could step away from jangly indie guitars without losing their charm. This appearance on The Tube captures the warmth and simplicity that turned the song into one of the most memorable festive hits of the 1980s.

"Message in a Bottle" was written by Sting, inspired by the image of a lone castaway throwing bottles into the sea in the hope that someone would find them. The main guitar riff was Sting's idea that Andy Summers rearranged and transformed into what we know today (and which Rolling Stone named one of the 100 greatest riffs in history). It was The Police's first #1 on the UK Singles Chart (3 weeks at the top in 1979), also #1 in Ireland, #5 in Australia, #2 in Canada... but in the US it reached only #74 on the Billboard Hot 100.

"Beds Are Burning" is a powerful protest anthem about returning land to Australia’s Indigenous peoples, especially the Pintupi. In 1986 Midnight Oil traveled through the Outback playing in remote Aboriginal communities and was deeply affected by the terrible living conditions and forced displacement they saw. In 2000, during the Sydney Olympics closing ceremony, Midnight Oil walked on stage wearing black suits with the word β€œSORRY” printed across them (without IOC permission) as a direct protest against the government that refused to apologize to the β€œStolen Generations”. Peter Garrett has always used the band as a strong political platform.

"I think if it was the other way around, and Arsenal scored that, it would have been given!" Kevin Nolan believes VAR wouldn't have got involved if the roles were reversed in Super Sunday's huge decision. @NoTippyTappyPod w/@BoyleSports Ad

🚨 Mateu Lahoz (retired Spanish referee) on West Ham’s disallowed equaliser against Arsenal: πŸ—£οΈ β€œI watched the replay many times and for me, that goal should have stood. Raya was never fully in control of the ball in any situation. If I was the referee, there is no chance I’m disallowing that goal. When you are fighting relegation, one decision like this can change everything for a club. Players work the whole season for moments and points like these. And maybe the referee also had pressure in his mind. Arsenal are fighting for the Premier League and perhaps nobody wanted the headlines if that goal changed the title race or helped Manchester City again. Football is becoming too clinical. Sometimes the game needs common sense more than five-minute VAR reviews.”
