It was a great privilege to speak at this year's @BigSkyDevCon and share the stage with some true legends and awesome projects. My talk was on the server-driven UI language (hypermedia application markup i.e. HAM) i created and the Hype Apps system to build apps. Basically you build fancy apps with all the best tools out there for html - utility design, hypermedia controls, reactive local state, complete ui kits -- but you can update them via the server and because its flutter under the hood they run on literally any device. At the time the showcase app wasn't approved on the app store, but now it is. If you are curious, try this app out. Every bit of it is written in HAM (long press to see the code), and every bit of it loading from my server. apps.apple.com/us/app/hype-a…

This is extremely effective
I’m finding traditional software processes these days in the way One group I’m experimenting with giving 2 ppl autonomy to go achieve something large without all our regular ceremony and discussions 1 very experienced engineer & 1 subject matter expert working in tandem rapidly

To the external observer —and I realize I am not knowledgeable about crypto—,it seems like it’s not fully secure

A+ task
Recently I've been tasked with removing additional npm dependencies to reduce the surface area that exposes the codebase to supply chain attacks Honestly it's pretty scary to see how many dependencies rely on each other The amount of deletions in the lockfile for removing a single dependency from package.json almost cancel out the regression test diff for rolling my own implementation

I'd actually love to see more people building small software again. One PHP file. A bit of HTML. Maybe SQLite. No accounts, no build process, no complicated deployment. Just a useful little tool that does one job. Not everything needs to become a SaaS business.

Some of this cve stuff is actually kinda uncool (it’s Friday night friends)

They were all trained during the era of react for everything. They can be trained on semantic html
no big deal just teaching modern html to my agents

Just had Claude write a custom php patch for an Ubuntu 18 server I can’t upgrade (yet). I have so little knowledge in this area, and even a month ago I wouldn’t have trusted ai to do it. but opus 55 has earned my trust, brick by brick, feature by feature

php won by getting us closer to the html
Just in case you needed a reminder, here is why half the internet still runs PHP.

this is a superpower now
My moat? I take simple ideas to autistic levels of rigor and weaponize boredom against any soon to be copycats

Hype apps is going to be the best of both worlds: natively compiled and smooth but fully server driven so you don’t wait on ui updates. Working like crazy to put it out there!

I know everyone is raving about native these days but man web apps still do have few aces up their sleeves.

phone apps, desktop apps, web apps, apps at a restaurant... just heard someone say they're 'going through apps' and they meant job applications. i'm calling for a total and complete shutdown of things being called apps until we can figure out what is going on

Rails and Laravel and Django are having a well-deserved “moment” right now. Ai makes these battery included frameworks insanely powerful and efficient to work with
look at all those rails jobs!

Calling all employers — If you are hiring for a stack with a big back end (you know who you are), post your job with @lexandermorgan new site Hypermediajobs.com As I talk about in the episode linked below: there are more of these jobs than it might appear!

@hypeapps hx-pod.transistor.fm/episode… episode. app built in datastar, no datastar jobs. We are too boring to be called out in a job listing hopefully forever.
