It rained.... And as predicted on @LBC with @HenryRiley1 not 48 hours ago. Anything in brown is sewage being dumping into the environment right now, in real time, anything in red is sewage dumped over the last 24 hours.

Ultra-processed foods now make up at least half of all food sold in UK supermarkets. The Lancet has described them as a “corporate-engineered public health crisis.” That is exactly what they are: industrial products designed for profit, not nutrition. They override appetite control, promote over-consumption, and push out real food alternatives. These foods are cheap because wages are low, access to fresh food is unequal, and corporate concentration has eliminated choice. The result is a society burdened with obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancers — and an NHS stretched to breaking point. None of this is accidental. In this video, I explain how ultra-processed food became unavoidable, why it is a systemic economic issue rather than a personal failure, and what the government can do now: from food labelling and advertising bans to taxing ultra-processed products and subsidising real food. We can change this — but only if we confront corporate power. youtu.be/BJ8nEeiFmH4?si=CkPU…

Purple Emperor caterpillar fully coloured up & ready to go into hibernation yesterday (in pre-hibernation), the second earliest date on record. It had little choice as its tree was 99% bare due to rampant Willow Rust (a leaf pox that rampages in wet summers).

First yellow rattle seed of the year in our meadow! #Rhinanthus Remember if you collect your own, sow as soon as possible & do not dry! You can always scarify the area you sow now with a rake in September if needed in thick swards.

With plenty of clear skies in the forecast, there is a good chance of seeing the Aurora across the northern half of the UK, and perhaps further south with long exposure photography 📷 However, as the nights are shorter, the duration of any sightings may be limited ✨

Amazing gig at the @BristolBeacon tonight: @JohnnyFlynnHQ and @RobGMacfarlane flowing words and music together. Love the magic these two weave - including the wonderful music for Digging for Britain of course!

We found 10 lapwing nests in the end and worked with the farmer to protect them. It took him 2hrs longer to plough the field but he said it was worth the extra effort. 4 nests have hatched so far, the rest shouldn't be much longer. #partnershipworking

We used some spare digger time to create a new wetland feature on the reserve. This low ground usually collects water during wet periods and so should make a good ephemeral pond. Looking forward to seeing how it develops 💦🐸🌱

Ian from our #YorkshireDales #NationalPark Wildlife Team and @hilltopfarmgirl discuss the pressures on #Curlew and how we can help 🙏 Play your part by reducing disturbance to their nests; stick to footpaths and keep dogs on leads during nesting from now until the end of July.

By far the most important thing I do, is try to conserve Tree Sparrows. This has dominated my adult life. We put up 10 new woodcrete nest boxes today. The second pic shows 2 old wooden boxes and 4 new woodcrete boxes. The 2nd box is no1012 which is one of my most successful boxes
