How useful is underwater video as a fisheries assessment tool in freshwater?
@BowmanJacob_ asked this question for his honours thesis, by comparing video against other ways of counting fish.

Last chapter of my PhD is “Just in”@CanJZoology! We tested how different parasites can affect swim performance in pumpkinseed sunfish through physiological or drag-induced effects! Check it out 🐟

Are you new to CTmax tests (or CTmin)? Are you experienced, but unsure on what to report in your Methods? Do you think there any other factors at play? 🤔
Then this practical guide is for you! It even includes a fillable table! 😎
Happy to see this out in @MethodsEcolEvol
Now published in @MethodsEcolEvol, a practical how-to guide to running CTmax experiments. Should be worth a read if you do or plan to do CTmax experiments. Includes a fillable table (inspired by @shaunkillen) for reporting your the details of your work.

Little is known about the mechanisms controlling thermal acclimation in fish.
Check out this study exploring possible roles of hormones & skin thermoreception during acclimation in goldsinny wrasse 🐟

Very happy to see this one out in the World!
New preprint: environmentally-relevant levels of aquatic oxygen supersaturation do not offer a protective benefit to most ectotherms during acute warming. Big team of authors, 147 CTmax trials, 14 species (fish and crustaceans).

I’m happy to share that my bonus chapter from my MSc @TrentUniversity is finally published in @cjfas 🔔
We investigated thermal acclimation and its reversal in embryos and subsequent life stages of brook trout (a North American native species) 🐟

Just out in Environmental Biology of Fishes! This paper is something to be proud of, we spent an incredible amount of time at some of Manitoba’s best lake trout fisheries.

What are the effects of tagging on fishes?
Our review + meta-analysis explores intracoelomic tagging effects in fishes. We summarize the existing literature and examine the 2% rule using evidence from a broad representation of all published studies.

The deadline to submit abstracts is approaching!!! ⏰ (March 7th)
Consider submitting an abstract for a talk or poster in our session (A14) if you study the vulnerability of early life stages to environmental stressors! 🐣
The early bird registration deadline is May 16th.
Hey you! Yes...you! You study early life stages? You like multiple taxa?
You should consider presenting in our session: Vulnerability and adaptations of early life stages to environmental stressors (A14).
🚨Deadline : March 7th 🚨
See you at the #SEBCONFERENCE in Antwerp!✌️

In this new paper led by @Trentbiology undergrad Sam Chasse (now an MSc student with @CalebHasler) with support from @erinmcstewart we quantified the repeatability of CTmax as a trait across varying contexts in pumpkinseed sunfish and rusty crayfish.
Impressive work! Nice job @erinmcstewart and team! – at Montréal, Québec
