Fox News is putting Nicki Minaj up telling people to vote red. Let’s break that down. Can Nicki Minaj vote? No. She’s not a U.S. citizen. Can Nicki Minaj’s husband vote? No, he’s a registered sex offender. Can Nicki Minaj’s brother vote? No, he’s serving 25 years to life for child sexual assault. She seems like the perfect spokesperson for MAGA republicans.

So @albertapp won’t let me close since I have savings and stock. So I sell the stock. Well, you can’t transfer stock cash AND savings cash? So I have to wait for one transfer, to do another transfer, to be able to close. Cool. ಠ_ಠ

It’s not a great sign when an autobody shop calls about a wrecked car, you mention “I’m working with @StateFarm “ and the auto body shop apologizes and wishes me luck.

"We haven't figured out all the issues, it could kill us all, but sure, AI President is totally going to be a thing super soon! BELIEVE ME!"
“an AI president is inevitable…within a decade” Sigh. No. Just….no. It is exhausting to confront this species of foolishness when there are clear and present harms from AI before us.

Neuroscientist @davideagleman thinks an AI president is inevitable, and that it could happen within a decade. We talked about why AI could make better moral decisions than humans, how it could give us real democracy, and why we might end up as “the squirrels” to superintelligence. She didn’t apologize for claiming “Tommy got ‘em! With the disavow question!” While Tommy made it clear they’re all about forcing Christian dogma, ignoring the story of Kennedy being asked if he pushed Catholicism over the Constitution
Earlier, I tweeted a video from an Abdul El-Sayed town hall. I deleted that tweet because it was a violation of CBS News standards. I apologize.

I have to say my recent experience with @StateFarm with a car accident has been less than okay. Phone tag, then I get a notice “it’s been paid” (the tow truck). No response. No texts. No follow ups. So I don’t know what the fuck is going on. Time to insurance shop again.

"Almost every software development organization has at least one developer who takes tactical programming to the extreme: a tactical tornado. The tactical tornado is a prolific programmer who pumps out code far faster than others but works in a totally tactical fashion. [...] In some organizations, management treats tactical tornadoes as heroes. "However, tactical tornadoes leave behind a wake of destruction. They are rarely considered heroes by the engineers who must work with their code in the future. Typically, other engineers must clean up the messes left behind by the tactical tornado, which makes it appear that those engineers (who are the real heroes) are making slower progress." @JohnOusterhout, A Philosophy Of Software Design, 2018 Sound familiar?

Dunking on peoples hard work is a big reason why so many dont feel like doing the work in the first place. Theres a difference between giving an opinion on possible improvements and just hurling insults and mockery.

Contemporary frontier models are not conscious. Indeed, the word itself is sufficiently void of anything but casual and subjective meaning such that it is counterproductive to apply it in any rational discourse at the intersection of the mind and computing. Contemporary frontier models are complex stateful reactive stochastic software-intensive systems with certain degrees of self-referential reflection, capable of coherent albeit unreliable outputs. Their behaviors are for the most part taught, not learned. One might argue that humans are just the same: we are complex, stateful, and stochastic, we have the capacity for introspection, some are more coherent than others, and we are all most definitely unreliable. But we are not the same as these software-intensive systems, in several important ways. We are mortal, a constraint that shapes and colors our behavior. We have agency. We generate abstractions. We build models of the word, of others, and of our selves, and we have mechanisms to test the structure and consistency of those models against the reality we perceive. Coupled with our agency, we can learn, a process that involves the intentional identification of noise, gaps, and incoherence such that when driven with self-directed behavior to devise then carry out plans to mitigate those flaws, they yield homeostatic actions that lead us to self-improve. We are orders of magnitude more complex. We are embodied and so live in an ocean of massive amounts of useless, inconsistent, contradictory, and incomplete information. We are composed of staggeringly large numbers of parallel agents, from the cellular level to the mind and body as a whole, agents that collaborate and complete in a multitude of ways, often simultaneously at different levels of abstraction. We are self-directed, our behavior driven by our self-generated goals and desires and wants and needs. One might further argue that all these things are computable. Indeed, I make that very assertion, that the mind is computable. However, I also assert that we are perhaps generations away from making that manifest: we lack the proper architectures to address these exquisite properties of the mind, and furthermore, we don't even have a sufficient understanding to lead us us to even ask the right questions to design them. I was born before when the word "software" was coined, but what a remarkable time it is to be alive now, where computing has advanced to the degree where we can begin to ask those very questions.

If you are cruel to an AI, be it a chatbot or a robot, it tells me far more about you than anything about the supposed rights or consciousness of that software-intensive system. And if you are a company who declares that such systems should have these rights or cognitive designation while simultaneously ignoring the immediate clear and present harms it engenders, it tells me everything I need to know about how that company has lost its way.

I stopped a rape once. It’s kind of crazy. I wasn’t religious, my parents didn’t teach me “rape is bad.” My roommate’s best friend had brought back a classmate from a rave, and she was clearly out of it, and he tried to get on top of her.

I threw his ass out from the apartment. Told him he wasn’t allowed back in to our place. It was me against three guys, and simply me saying “fuck no, get the fuck out” and then tucking her into my bed and sleeping on the couch was all I had to do.

No praying on it. No calling someone to decide “right or wrong.” Just a simple “this is wrong, period.”
