History taught us that when someone named Alexander arrives, things tend to get conquered! 😄
True to form, Alexander Ky, a rising M4 from @@MSUMD arrived as a @FAERanesthesia, @society_asa fellow. After 8 weeks in the Pendyala Academic Curiosity Unit (PACU 😊), Alex did conquer the OR, ICU, research meetings, and our endless stream of papers.
In this process “veni, vidi, vici” became “ombruta, investigavit, editus” (I shadowed, I researched, I published).
Thank you for being such an engaged and enthusiastic member of #teampendyala this summer. Wishing you all the best in medical school and beyond.
The world needs more Alexanders to lead breakthroughs in medicine and research - not battle fields.
Proud Mentor Moment 👏👏
Today was one of those days that reminds me why mentoring young scientists is so rewarding. Watching our Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) interns present their work at the poster session was truly inspiring. Over the past few months, they embraced the challenges of research with curiosity, determination, and resilience. They learned new techniques, tackled unexpected obstacles, analyzed complex data, and, most importantly, grew as critical thinkers and emerging scholars.
As John C. Maxwell wisely said, "A mentor is someone who sees more talent and ability within you than you see in yourself and helps bring it out of you." Today, I had the privilege of seeing that growth on full display.
Standing beside their posters and watching them confidently explain their projects, answer questions, and engage in thoughtful scientific discussions was a proud moment for all of us who had the opportunity to mentor them. Their enthusiasm, hard work, and professionalism were evident in every presentation, reflecting not only the progress they made in the lab but also the promising futures that lie ahead.
Thank you @unmc_success, @unmc, @UNMCCOM @UNMCanesthesia for your support in these next gen physician-scientists.
Congratulations to #teampendyala SURP interns Josef Crenshaw from @ProvidenceCol, Nakshatra Nallamothu from @PWSHWolves and Amir Elrefaie from @UNOmaha on an outstanding poster session. Thank you for your dedication, energy, and passion for discovery. It has been a pleasure to be part of your research journey, and I look forward to seeing the impact you will make in science, medicine, and beyond.
Keep asking bold questions, pursuing new discoveries, and reaching for excellence!" 🎉🔬👏
For 250 years, the United States has stood as a beacon of hope, opportunity, and freedom.

So wave the flag, enjoy the fireworks, and celebrate all that makes this nation special because it's a party in the USA! 🇺🇸🎇
Here's to 250 years of freedom, unity, and the American spirit.
Happy Birthday, America! 🇺🇸🎉
As a mentor, I am extremely proud of Amin Foroughi ‘s selection to the Allen Institute’s highly competitive Computational Cell Types Workshop. Being recognized among a select international group of researchers reflects his scientific rigor, creativity, and dedication to advancing Alzheimer’s disease research.
This experience has expanded his expertise in cutting-edge spatial transcriptomics and large-scale human brain datasets, providing a strong foundation for future studies aimed at understanding microglial dysfunction and identifying novel therapeutic targets in Alzheimer’s disease. I am excited to see how this work evolves and contributes to meaningful discoveries in neurodegenerative research. Rock on Amin !

🇺🇸 Stars, Stripes, and Science! 🇺🇸
Celebrated our lab meeting with a little July 4th spirit reflecting on the freedom to explore, discover, and push the boundaries of science together. Grateful for an outstanding team (missing Charlie Polen, Nakshatra and Amir in pic 1) whose dedication and curiosity continue to drive impactful research.
The celebration continued over lunch with some incredibly talented future MDs and MD/PhDs. Inspiring conversations, big dreams, and the next generation of physician-scientists in the making. The future of medicine is bright! 🎆🧬🔬🍔
Here's to discovery, mentorship, and the enduring pursuit of knowledge. Wishing everyone a safe, joyful, and inspiring Independence Day!
Happy 250th Birthday America🇺🇸 ! Its definitely a party in the USA 🎆 !
Today, on occasion of Memorial Day, we remember those who gave everything so we could live in freedom. They were not just heroes in uniform—they were loved ones, dreams, and stories that live on through us.
Their sacrifice calls us to live with purpose, gratitude, and courage.
You will never be forgotten. Freedom lives because of you 🫡
🚀 Kudos to Amin Foroughi! 🧠✨
Huge congratulations to my graduate student Amin Foroughi for being selected as one of just 18 participants globally 🌍 for the prestigious Computational Cell Types Workshop at the Allen Institute organized by Rachel Hostetler, PhD
This immersive, hackathon‑style workshop brought together top talent to “hack the brain” 🧬—working with cutting-edge datasets to decode brain cell types and function. Truly the frontier of computational neuroscience 💡⚡
A phenomenal achievement, Amin—proud of you and excited for what’s ahead! 👏🌟

🌟 With Deepest Gratitude and Joy 🌟
Being named a Distinguished Scientist at UNMC is not just a title—
It is a reflection of a journey paved with passion, perseverance, and purpose.
From the first spark of curiosity to the countless hours in the lab,
From mentoring minds to advancing science with integrity and heart—
This honor is a tribute to every step, every challenge, and every breakthrough.
To my mentors, colleagues, students, and family, your unwavering support has been the wind beneath my wings.
This recognition belongs to all of us.
May this milestone be a reminder that science, at its core, is a labor of love—
