One of the great ironies of India is that we worship our rivers, yet rarely trust the water that flows into our homes.
Which is why Puri’s transformation fascinated me. An entire city where people can apparently drink straight from the tap.
And this change didn’t take decades. It happened over just a few years because political leadership, administrative execution and community participation all moved in sync.
A key part of the story is the role played by the ‘Jal Sathis’ local women who became guardians of the city’s water quality and helped build public trust in the system.
My #MondayMotivation this week comes from leaders & participative citizens who proved that governance can genuinely improve the quality of everyday life
India’s only city where you can drink straight from the tap—no boiling, no filters, no fear. 💧
Puri transformed its broken water system into a 24×7, BIS-certified supply using smart pipelines, IoT monitoring, and community trust.
From massive leakages to clean water at every tap, this isn’t just infrastructure—it’s belief restored.
This Odisha Day, we ask — if one city can do it, why not others?

They are the ones who needed the least.

Irrespective of who you are, you will eventually find yourself in a situation where you need help from someone in a position to give it.

There’s a new breed of social media influencers who love comparing what they escaped and finding pleasure in dunking on those who stayed back in India. It’s a stupid, lazy way to farm engagement. Most of these posts come from Indians settled abroad, carrying a sense of superiority as if leaving India somehow made them wiser.
They talk about what “might have happened” had they stayed, framing India as a land of wasted potential. This commentary helps no one. It only tells young founders, engineers, and scientists buulding every day in India that their work isn’t worth it.
Try building Aadhaar, UPI, or Zerodha from wherever you are. Before glorifying how you “escaped,” remember some people stayed back and built the very systems the world now studies.
And if anything, feel proud that Indians today are among the most talented builders and leaders running global companies.

A powerful way to learn is to not admire people, but to admire their traits. People are fallible and will disappoint.
Traits like honesty, hard work, and curiosity are timeless. Deconstruct the best and adopt their methods.

“i’m not good at math”
no, you’re lazy and undisciplined. years of not applying yourself to understand what is arguably the most important subject compounded to the point where you are functionally mathematically illiterate.
now, you use this as an excuse to make yourself feel better, that some people just have the math gene, and you don’t. They were lucky, you were not.
nobody is born knowing calculus, and yes very few people are savants. The rest of us didn’t understand it just like you, but actually put in the work to make the unknown to us, known.
put in the effort to learn math, it’s worth it.

It’s easy to discuss people. It requires no intellectual labor. No effort to understand systems, no need to challenge our own beliefs. It’s a form of mental laziness, and often, a way to mask insecurity or divert attentionfrom our own shortcomings.

You will learn things in a startup, of course. But the way to learn the fastest is to work on whatever you're most curious about, and you don't have that luxury in a startup. In a startup you have to work on whatever users want most.
