I spent a lot of time at Amazon and Uber as an IC engineer working with recruiters to screen resumes. Some of the most important work I ever did. Made the teams around me that much better with great hires. I can’t imagine outsourcing this as a hiring manager.
I told my recruiter to send me all the resumes. No filter at all. He said it would be a lot of resumes. It was 50. I ended up hiring a very intelligent person who would have been filtered out for experience, and he was a star

The statue of Prometheus is finally finished. It was cast in Paris, crossed the Atlantic, and was assembled at Starbase. It took us 100 days to go from nothing to this. People of the West, we have lived through an era devoid of dreams, devoid of destiny. But the time has come to reclaim our dream of antiquity. In a few months, we will start building a new city. It will be the most magnificent city in all of history. After all, the great dream of the West has always been to rebuild Rome. Come walk beside us in this endeavor. The world is waiting.

Moving off Claude code for a day, using Ornith-1.5-35B-A3B-MLX-8bit and my own coding harness. Getting work done without paying anyone money. I like it.

There’s literally a data center across the street from the Space Needle. No one can even tell.

Claude is so bad I have a hard time believing @AnthropicAI employees are dogfooding this. Massive mistake, you’ve lost so much goodwill from me. Maybe unrecoverable.

The last time I visited, I entered the bathroom to find half height open stalls, and a man shaving his entire body and bathing in the sink. Not conducive to reading or learning.
I visited Seattle’s $165 million dollar downtown library and it was OVERRUN with drug addicts. Not only is this library filled with adults who are high on drugs, but they also offer FREE fentanyl test strips, syringes and injectable narcan that anyone, including children, can access. Visitors have complained of “foul odors”, unusable restrooms and harassment by the homeless and I experienced all of this while at this location. Seattle residents just passed a tax increase to raise $480 million dollars for libraries just like this one and this is unfortunately the state that they’re in:

A Claude loop took a DOS game from 1991 and rewrote its Turbo Pascal until the compiled executable was SHA1 identical to the original. Same hash. Same bytes. Every gate I ever wondered about as a kid, finally open.

Fine, I started using loops in Claude Code, and yes it's a game changer for one of my projects.

With less than 72 hours until one of the most anticipated FIFA World Cup matches in Seattle, Australian fans are pouring into the city and discovering what many say is a surprise: Seattle itself. The United States and Australia are set to face off Friday at Seattle Stadium, a matchup expected to draw one of the tournament's largest crowds. As excitement builds, international visitors are filling hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions while soaking up sunny summer weather across the city. MORE: bit.ly/4vfbZw1

Fable 5 just one shot a Rust core replacement for my Python Blackjack simulator that's already 51x faster. It's already prepping the next phase where it goes multicore. I'm sold.

Claude 4.7 is so slow it's making me want to turn off all AI agents and just do shit manually again.

🚨 Japan placed stone warnings along its coastline centuries ago. In 2011, the ocean proved them right. Scattered along Japan's coast are hundreds of ancient markers known as tsunami stones. Some are over 600 years old. They carry one message: do not build below this point. 🔹Aneyoshi obeyed and survived 2011 🔹Some stones are over 600 years old 🔹Hundreds placed along Japan's coast 🔹Over 20,000 killed in the 2011 tsunami 🔹Towns below the markers were destroyed One stone in Aneyoshi reads "Remember the calamity of the great tsunamis. Do not build any homes below this point." The village obeyed. When the 2011 tsunami hit, the water stopped just below the stone. Aneyoshi survived. Surrounding towns that built below the markers lost over 20,000 people. A Tohoku University professor said "It takes about three generations for people to forget." Survivors carved warnings into stone because they knew memory fades. Civilisation after civilisation did the same thing thousands of years earlier. If the Japanese stones proved deadly accurate after 600 years, why do we assume the older warnings are just myths?
