The torture chambers and mass graves created the illusion that the worst was over. As it turned out, they were mistaken.
Today, Lyman has virtually ceased to exist. The photographs we took a few days ago show this. Access to the city has been impossible for a long time. Badass Norwegian parliament member Peter Frølich broke his country's export laws to smuggle thermal-imaging drones into Ukraine after Norwegian customs blocked the shipment in 2023.
When government bureaucracy stood between Ukrainian soldiers and urgently needed equipment, Frølich decided to take matters into his own hands.
The drones were delivered, the Norwegian government subsequently changed the regulations, and Frølich says he has no regrets.
