HISTORY IS LONGER THAN YOU THINK no global leader alive has governed under a hard money standard. not one will that always be true? i don’t think so bitcoin disrupts — not by accident, but by design

Alex Thorn on self-custody: the Coldcard exploit makes the case for multisig, with not one satoshi stolen from a multisig wallet "This is a tough time to be relying on a company for your self custody. I think one of the big lessons has been the primacy and efficacy of multisig if you're self custodying." "Not one Satoshi was stolen in the Coldcard exploit from a multisig wallet. We can see that onchain when you spend coins. You reveal the entire script of the transaction that was holding them." "I think probably, in my opinion, the best option if you're doing self custody is to use multisig. Multiple hardware wallets. You can use collaborative custody like Casa and Unchained and AnchorWatch." "You're getting redundancy by having multiple signing devices rather than by storing a copy of the seed of the device." "You screenshot your 12 word seed or 24 word seed. It's one of the first things that hackers look for if they break into an email account or a computer." "We know all the possible words. They come from a dictionary of 4-BIP39. So it's very easy for them to just search for combinations of those words on your machine and instantly sweep your seed."

establishing jurisdiction over a crypto defendant because someone ran a node in a location unrelated to the defendant or his alleged victims is a stretch surely SDNY is meant to find a victim or defendant in their jurisdiction, not a mere copy of the global ledger 🤔
I had to testify in a trial I wasn't involved in. Here's my story:

I have had a great time joining many podcasts this year but this one with Alex Thorn at Galaxy was one of my favorites. We go deep into the merge of AI and digital assets and what the next year will look like as tokenization changes the world. youtu.be/G-HqvP7pjVk?si=WC-c…

this “genesis block puzzle” has been solved. someone made a 2-of-2 multisig using weak entropy derived from data in satoshi’s genesis block, and people paid for hints until someone cracked it the timechain is filled with strange wonders, artifacts, history, and even puzzles 🧩
After 55 days and 127 OP_RETURN messages between prospective solvers and the creator, this puzzle has been solved and the prize has been fully swept by the winner, earning him ~935k sats ($762).

As AI agents become a primary interface, the internet needs ways to show a distinct person stands behind an agent, without revealing that person's identity. @ZackPokorny_ explains. galaxy.com/insights/research…

preston confidently, accurately, and repeatedly slapping down foreign powers who seek to inhibit americans’ free speech remains by far my favorite legal content of the decade
Back in May, Australia threatened US website Gab with jail time for publishing a gag order wrt a censorship hearing. I responded by asserting my American client's rights. Australia wrote back again, objecting and referring to my conduct as "disgraceful." This was my reply.

Makes sense. Give me a couple'a beers and I'll answer any prompt you could throw into an LLM. With an equal amount of confidence and a similar level of bias.
TIL that global spending on alcohol is still larger than AI infrastructure spending this year ($1.7T vs $1.5T)

more than half of all BTC supply is sitting in addresses with no known attribution despite all the institutionalization and centralized ownership over the years, still a ton of bitcoin (maybe even most) is held by individuals in self-custody 🔐

one thing people aren't discussing enough in the wake of coldcard: not one satoshi is documented as being stolen from a multisig the future of self-custody is multisig, and i urge non-technical users who desire self-custody to look into collaborative multisig providers
