"Yours to Discover" by internetVin
My little talk at Toronto Tech Week 2025.
This was a new format and setting for me, I was pretty nervous about it, but I thought I would just try it out and see what I would learn.
Thank you for everything so far.

the pen for life
Starting to think about partnerships for @OtherStuffShow, would love to work with BIC if anyone has a connect or can help.

because I can do things so much faster on my computer now, the thinking behind everything feels so much more important, I find the less I use a computer, the better my work is getting.. I'll just write for hours and then eventually walk over to my computer to make something specific, this process seems so much more effective
yeah it seems one of the most effective ways to understand a system is to attempt to create a simulation of it, it forces you to break down the systems components, understand their functions and how they relate to other components of the system

we're bringing all kinds of designers together for a beautiful evening at suite 115 hosted by toronto's very own @itsjessyin
swap, learn and celebrate the design artifacts that inspire us

one of the benefits of reading through a transcript like this is it forces me to face where my thinking is weak or under developed, it shows me where I might be introducing interesting ideas but I cannot progress them further because I haven't done the research or projects to rise to a higher level of understanding
Reading through the @OtherStuffShow episode with @TGUPJ, reading through this is like reading a book about each episode..
Notice the pen I use by the way. It’s easily the best one ever made.

There's not a lot of sophisticated dialogue right now about how to use Artificial Intelligence to more effectively understand things. It's better than school, but no one is really talking about that.
there's two ways you can use LLMs, you are either understanding more or understanding less of the process, I think it's absolutely unacceptable to not be understanding more over time. We should be disgusted and revolt against anything that leads us to understanding less.
consider a dry season.
low rainfall dries the soil and vegetation. fire risk rises. a fire breaks out, consuming biomass, damaging buildings and electrical interties, drawing down municipal water, and sending smoke into neighbouring regions.
the smoke reduces solar generation and worsens air quality. batteries drain. the grid falls back on shared reserves. if an intertie was damaged, the settlement may lose power entirely.
now the clinic has less power while treating more people with respiratory illness. illness and damaged infrastructure reduce the available workforce. local production begins to fall.
the settlement requests food, medicine, and components from elsewhere, but those supplies still have to travel through real freight corridors. if the remaining route is damaged or congested, deliveries arrive late or fail.
a temporary environmental event has now created a lasting dependency on another settlement.
and if the player promised to keep the clinic supplied but repeatedly failed, that dependency can become political: trust falls, services are rationed, new terms are demanded, local alternatives are built, or the settlement eventually withdraws from the network.
this is the kind of chain new dawn protocol simulates.
This would be a human written document and becomes like what a code base was.
As the thinking on a project is improving I think you should actually be trending towards less thinking files over time. A project that is really well thought out should be trending towards a single file that lets anyone read it from front to back even if it's like 50k words and understand basically everything that was learned, decided on and why through the project.
For example, a book is basically a single file with headings for structure.
