My friend has been trying to find housing for three years now, relying on the kindness of friend and family. I know that short term solutions are simply harm reduction but if you have the ability I'm sure her cashapp is open $ajajsdld

Thread of resources and explainers about Trumps unlawful suspension of federal funding. Stay tuned for how this will impact homeless folks. TLDR: This is going to hurt everybody, but will hurt poor folks, Black folks, and POC first and worst.

The city of LA is still sweeping unhoused people in the middle of this unprecedented crisis. Instead of bringing folks on the streets inside, the city is destroying what little they have & threatening them with arrest.
LA city’s priority during the worst wildfires in history remains the same: terrorizing poor people.

GOOD NEWS: Brockton mayor vetoes two anti-homeless ordinances, calling them "punitive" and advocating for "a compassionate, human approach, providing wraparound services." More elected officials must step up and do the same. #HousingNotHandcuffs loom.ly/mP9547g

What did he do that deserved death? That he got on a train and yelled that the society failed him? That he needed help? That he made people uncomfortable? Because they’re used to looking away and creating distance between them and the homeless? That’s enough for him to be killed.

People who say you get more conservative as you get older are just projecting their own personal shittiness onto everyone else. I get more radicalized by the year. It's not even about older people having more wealth to protect; I'm making more than ever before and I still want to obliterate capitalism. You get more conservative and right wing as you get older if you fail to grow as you age. It just means you've been wasting your time on this planet and allowing yourself to become intellectually lazy and morally stagnant.

Idk what people think happens when you report an encampment, but they don't get any help. They get beat by police. They get fined and their tents, food, blankets, IDs, ashes of their loved ones, medicines, etc. thrown away. They get more traumatized + desperate than before.

It's disappointing that the conversation in left media on abolition still has such a surface level analysis that fixates on what the word aboltion communicates (e.g. getting rid of the police is "wacky") instead of the substance of the idea: we need systems of care that work.

Arizona voters have approved a "harmful, counterproductive, and shortsighted ballot initiative” to pay property owners if cities don’t sweep homeless encampments. Prop 312 fails to address the root cause of homelessness: unaffordable housing. @jesserbnwtz vox.com/2024-elections/38349…

One thing is abundantly clear today: Far too many Christians in the United States don’t have the slightest clue what loving their neighbor practically looks like.

not to be a broken record, but *this* hits. if you are hmls or are in community w/folks experiencing hmlsns…it’s difficult exhausting mind boggling to try to explain to ppl this very real version of the world you witness every day.
everything you are afraid of is already happening to your unhoused neighbors. has been happening to your unhoused neighbors. mob violence, deportation, being rounded up and herded into camps… it’s been happening. are you ready to organize for and with unhoused people?
