IRCLASS

Glad to address inaugural session of the Symposium on Underwater Welding, Offshore Repair and Additive Manufacturing held at IIT Guwahati. Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji, India is rapidly strengthening its maritime capabilities and competencies through the spirit of Aatmanirbharta. We are enhancing port infrastructures, expanding inland waterways and accelerating the growth of blue economy. Assam and the entire North East are proud contributors to this transformative progress. The Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) at @IITGuwahati has opened up new pathways of practical impact through its innovative initiatives and skill development programmes aimed at building advanced expertise in emerging technologies such as Underwater Welding, Offshore Repair and Additive Manufacturing (commonly known as 3D Printing). In collaboration with the Indian Register of Shipping (@irclass), TIH has successfully completed the certification programme in Underwater Welding. I was pleased to present certificates to the young talents and commend the joint efforts of TIH - IIT Guwahati, and IRS. I was also truly impressed to witness the repair of a marine propeller for industry using metal 3D printing by the team at TIH - IIT Guwahati. Assam holds immense potential to emerge as a major hub for underwater repair and advanced manufacturing and I am confident that TIH - IIT Guwahati will be at the centre of this promising future.
