The Cost of Gluten Free Food on TV 🍞 Fab piece of coverage on @itvnews regional programmes last night featuring @C_Burke5 & @Coeliac_UK 🧡 Not that we didn't already know.. but gluten free food is too expensive! Definitely take a watch. What do you think? 🤔

Here is our latest exciting project! We are looking at #brainfog in people who have #coeliac disease. Are you newly diagnosed? Have you experienced this? If so Emily would love to hear from you. Thank you!

1/ Following the recent inquest into the death of an 80-year-old with coeliac disease and other complex health conditions who was fed gluten in hospital, Coeliac UK is calling for improvements to hospital food guidelines.

If you ever need cheering up just remember that every July thousands of Kate Bush fans gather around the world to perform Wuthering Heights dressed head to toe like Kate Bush herself

“Zara believed that a woman should be able to walk home.” Please, take the time to read every word of this tribute to Zara Aleena by her family. I’m not sure I’ve read anything quite like it before.

Great news. 👏Drugs like this could make such a difference for people with food allergies – not having to worry so much about cross-contamination would ease a lot of stress. If there was an equivalent for people with coeliac disease I would consider taking it.

(Obv this would probably work very differently for coeliac disease as it's an autoimmune disease rather than an allergy, but one can dream)
This is not acceptable – @foodgov has previously recommended that people with food allergies or coeliac disease don't sign waivers, and that these do not stop the restaurant from being legally responsible.
...having to sign my life away just to get some lunch today 😑 this is illegal isn't it? I'm very grateful but my anxiety hasn't subsided since 😥 @NatashasLegacy @foodallergyuk @FoodAllergyAW @FoodAllergy @AnaphylaxisUK @Coeliac_UK @AllergyEpidemic @Allergyhour @AllergyUK1

I still can't believe this 😡 How can somebody be admitted to hospital with coeliac disease and then be fed gluten multiple times? Coeliac disease so often is just not taken seriously We need to do better to ensure we aren't making things worse for coeliac inpatients 😢

Important to note this after today’s BBC article falsely claiming that vomiting is not usually a symptom.
Coeliac disease is a serious autoimmune condition, affecting 1 in 100 people in the UK. Vomiting is a common symptom, alongside others like bloating, diarrhoea and stomach pain. Even a small amount of gluten can cause a severe reaction.

That poor woman. 😔 Vomiting is a symptom of a coeliac reaction for me too, I’m not sure why they’ve said it’s not in this article…

I’ve instructed my boyfriend and family to bring me in food if ever I’m incapacitated in hospital! You’d hope it would be the one place you wouldn’t need to worry about a glutening…

Interesting. I have not... 💉
Have any other coeliacs been offered a second covid vaccination booster? Just had my invite.

Obv you're not ingesting it, but would touching it often be a risk for contaminating your food, etc?! 🌾
All of these steps are important, but it's most helpful to have as much info as possible before visiting/before sitting down to eat, so that you can make the decision on whether or not you can eat safely (and well!) somewhere.
Here’s a look at eating out pathway we used to guide the structure of our survey. Do these stages of the eating out journey make sense to you? Which do you think are the most important? #allergyhour
If they vaguely promise that they have "loads of gluten free options" but won't be specific. If I ask about separate fryers etc and they clearly haven't considered cross-contamination. If they are rude or only willing to state legal disclaimers.
This is important for us to understant better too! If you ring up the restaurant before you go - what is it about what they say that makes you decide NOT to go? #allergyhour

I wish more restaurants would include detailed information on their online menus about allergens. So many seem to have removed specific labelling in favour of generic "speak to a member of staff about allergens" statements.

The fact is though, I do still sometimes end up eating at these places! You can't choose the restaurant for every occasion.
