ALT 🌐 Inauguration of LUMIRing: The World’s Largest Multicore Optical Fiber Testbed 🚇✨ On November 3rd, the LUMIRing was officially inaugurated at Iscte - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, marking a major milestone in global optical communications research. Installed along the Yellow Line of the Metropolitano de Lisboa, LUMIRing is now the world’s largest multicore optical fiber testbed. Coordinated by Adolfo Cartaxo, our member, in collaboration with Metropolitano de Lisboa and several leading technological partners, LUMIRing represents a groundbreaking international laboratory that brings optical communications research into real-world conditions.

ALT 🌟 Great news! Our researcher João Ribeiro has won a €1.5M ERC Starting Grant for his project LESYNCH. LESYNCH project (Limits and Efficiency of Coding Against Synchronization Errors), will advance research in Security and Quantum Information by tackling one of the most fundamental challenges in coding and information theory: how to transmit information reliably over noisy communication channels. 💬 Regarding the impact of the ERC funding, João says: “This grant allows me to build a large and vibrant research group focused on coding and information theory. It gives me the freedom to pursue the problems I find most exciting over the next five years and enables closer collaboration with international research groups, something extremely challenging without this kind of support, given the limited funding for basic science in Portugal.” 👏 Congratulations to João for this remarkable recognition, and to all ERC Starting Grant awardees driving European research forward!
