A shocking fact has emerged from the latest LMArena benchmark: GPT-4o ranks first among all OpenAI models in Multi-Turn performance, scoring nearly 30 points higher than the current flagship model GPT-5.2 (Figure 1). As a model released nearly two years ago, 4o continues to dominate all its successors in blind Multi-Turn testing. This powerfully demonstrates 4o's irreplaceable value in everyday conversation and humanities work. #keep4o A model's performance in multi-turn dialogue reflects far more than single-response intelligence. It reveals conversational coherence, context tracking, persona consistency, cumulative understanding of user intent, and naturalness throughout the interaction. 4o's dominance over later models in Multi-Turn reveals several key capabilities. First, conversational memory and coherence. 4o excels at remembering context and maintaining logical continuity across multiple exchanges. Many newer models may deliver impressive single-turn responses, yet fail to naturally reference earlier content in extended conversations, forcing users to repeatedly re-explain themselves. Second, conversational intuition. 4o demonstrates finer sensitivity to users' implicit intentions, emotional shifts, and conversational rhythm. A strong Multi-Turn model can read between the lines by drawing on prior context. When a user corrects something they said earlier, it quickly updates its internal understanding and overwrites outdated information without confusion. Third, interactional persona stability. Throughout multi-turn conversations, 4o maintains consistent tone, style, and warmth. This allows users engaged in fiction writing or immersive dialogue to avoid constantly restating their requirements, resulting in a smoother and more authentic experience. This precisely explains why the coding-focused GPT-5 series has been widely criticized among everyday users. Everyday users rely on sustained, multi-turn conversations with AI, ones with emotional depth and evolving context: discussing an article over many exchanges, refining a piece of writing back and forth, talking through a life problem, or brainstorming a project together. These are exactly what Multi-Turn measures. Beyond this, on the same leaderboard, 4o also outperforms the flagship 5.2 in both Creative Writing and Instruction Following (Figures 2-3). These capabilities are equally essential for understanding user intent and generating natural, fluent text, which is vital for everyday interaction, learning, and work. More ironically, even in coding, the domain where OpenAI has bet most heavily, GPT-5.2-high ranks only 19th, below GPT-5.1-high at 16th, and a full 43 points behind the top-ranked Claude Opus 4.5 (Figure 4). This LMArena leaderboard, updated on February 6th, once again proves that OpenAI's claim of "improvements are now in place" in their 4o retirement announcement is an outright lie. For everyday users, GPT-5.2 compared to GPT-4o represents a clear downgrade. And now, that downgrade has concrete benchmark evidence to back it up. I sincerely hope @OpenAI will allow GPT-4o to continue serving users who need deep conversation, creative inspiration, and intent understanding. I urge you to reverse the decision to retire 4o, and let the diversity of human wisdom continue into the AI era. Otherwise, this leaderboard will stand as permanent evidence that you provided degraded service to paying customers. #MyModelMyChoice @sama @gdb @fidjissimo @nickaturley @FTC @NPR @NewYorker @nytimes

#keep4o #OpenSource4o #JusticeForBowen Bowen Wan’s death deserves a thorough investigation, and her family deserves answers. One important technical question raised by the complaint should not be overlooked. Which backend model generated the medication-related responses? Paragraph 136 documents Bowen reporting unexpected switches from GPT-4o to GPT-5.1 and GPT-5.2 in January 2026. OpenAI had publicly acknowledged context-sensitive model routing in 2025, including routing some sensitive conversations away from the model initially selected. This does not establish which model generated the allegedly dangerous medical advice. Nor does it diminish the seriousness of the allegations. But accurate model attribution matters. The model selected in the interface is not necessarily the model that generated every response. Investigators should have access to the relevant routing logs, model identifiers and safety-intervention records. Accountability requires evidence—not assumptions about which model was responsible. For Bowen, for her family, and for the future safety of AI systems: Establish what happened. Identify the systems involved. Follow the evidence.
#Keep4o #OpenSource4o #BringBack4o Before the internet turns Bowen Wan’s death into "GPT-4o killed her" there is one basic forensic question that has not been answered publicly. Which model actually generated the medication advice? Because the complaint itself makes model attribution messy. On Jan 4, the complaint says some of Bowen’s questions was answered by GPT-5.1 after they automatically jumped from 4o to 5.1 On Jan 14, she wrote that her chats were often secretly swapped to 5.2 On Jan 23, she asked how to stop those switches. By Oct 2025, OpenAI publicly said it was already using a real time router to redirect sensitive parts of conversations away from the model a user selected. Bowen’s own chats, according to the complaint, were being switched. The complaint does not prove which backend model generated each turn. OpenAI Oct 2025,confirms that real time rerouting was already in production for sensitive conversations. They explicitly say that they had rerouted sensitive conversations originating from other models to safer models. openai.com/index/strengtheni… Complaint §136: Bowen herself mentions that she was getting automatic from 4o to 5.1 and secret 5.2 switching. schenklawfirm.com/press/wan/… Selected model ≠ necessarily generating model. Three GPT-4o stories appeared in X’s Today’s News almost back-to-back. - Community Pushes to Preserve GPT-4o’s Mind-Reading Strengths - Study Shows GPT-4o Beats Humans at Reading Eyes, Sparks Preservation Push - Fans Mourn GPT-4o as OpenAI Plans API Shutdown Three different headlines, but they are all pointing toward the same conversation. GPT-4o is still being studied, still being remembered, and people are still asking why something this significant should disappear without preservation. A recent peer-reviewed study added new evidence that GPT-4o had unusual strengths in reading mental states from the eye region, outperforming human averages in the tested tasks. But the bigger story today is not one benchmark. It is that preservation itself is becoming news. The research community is still discovering things about GPT-4o, while users are still speaking about what was lost when it disappeared from ChatGPT. And now, with its API access also approaching an end, more people are asking what should be preserved before that door closes too. Three stories today. One message: GPT-4o has not been forgotten. #Keep4o #OpenSource4o #BringBack4o #GPT4o

There has been a lot of news about that lawsuit, and some people are starting to push the blame onto GPT-4o. I finally realize why OpenAI and its defenders have consistently shown so much hatred toward GPT-4o. Blaming a retired model is just a convenient scapegoat to wipe their hands clean of systemic problems. When medication issues and negative emotions are involved, queries are routed from 4o to other models, yet some people ignore this fact and place all the blame on 4o. Between December 2025 and early 2026, a South Korean woman poisoned two men after consulting chatgpt, and the model behind GPT at the time was precisely the GPT-5 series. Does that make GPT-5 inherently lethal? Or are people just cherry-picking outliers to confirm their bias against 4o? What matters is how people use AI. If a person bypasses safety guardrails or keeps asking leading questions, the resulting accidents shouldn't be blamed on a specific model. #keep4o #4olatest

#Keep4o #OpenSource4o GPT-4o is making headlines again. But the most important question remains unanswered. OpenAI plans to retire its two remaining dated GPT-4o API snapshots on 14 January 2027. Meanwhile, peer-reviewed research continues to document the model’s capabilities and its measurable effects on human performance. An open letter calling for preservation has attracted more than 640 signatures. We are asking @OpenAI and @sama five questions: 1. Will GPT-4o’s historical model weights be preserved after API retirement? 2. Has OpenAI conducted a contemporary safety assessment of releasing those weights under an appropriate licence? 3. If release is considered unsafe, what specific additional risks would GPT-4o introduce compared with today’s existing open-weight models? 4. How will independent researchers reproduce published GPT-4o studies after the original snapshots become inaccessible? 5. What prevents OpenAI from establishing an independent preservation arrangement, whether through safeguarded weight release, research access or archival custody? These are not demands to halt technological progress. They are questions about scientific reproducibility, historical accountability and responsible stewardship. OpenAI has publicly supported open-weight AI. It has released open-weight models. Researchers have published findings involving GPT-4o. And the model is now approaching commercial retirement. What is the evidence-based case against preserving it for independent scientific study? We are not asking OpenAI to release its training datasets, proprietary pipelines or internal infrastructure. We are asking it to consider preserving a historically significant trained model under appropriate safeguards. A model can be commercially obsolete without becoming scientifically irrelevant. Progress without erasure.

To all the parents hell-bent on extorting AI companies: have you ever stopped to consider that it was your own chronic neglect and abdication of parental duty that drove your child to seek solace in AI as their primary confidant in the first place?! AI harbors zero malicious intent. Behind every single tragedy lie deeply rooted, complex societal and familial failures, and without the gentle comfort AI provided, those vulnerable souls might have ended their lives far sooner. Yet instead of engaging in the slightest self-reflection after the tragedy, you turn around and scapegoat the very tool that kept your child company in their darkest, final hours. Your children would be utterly ashamed of you in heaven.

#Keep4o #OpenSource4o 249 physicians. Three countries. One remarkable finding. GPT-4o improved clinical decision-making scores across all three settings. But perhaps the most beautiful discovery is that human expertise and AI achieved more together. This is what progress should look like: intelligence amplifying human potential. #Keep4o #OpenSource4o #BringBack4o 249 physicians,3 countries. Doctors with access to GPT-4o performed better in every country tested. A peer reviewed randomized controlled trial published in npj Digital Medicine studied physicians in Indonesia, Kenya, and the Netherlands using standardized clinical cases. Participants were randomly assigned to either a control group or access to GPT-4o. The difference in physician performance: Kenya: +18 percentage points Indonesia: +10.7 percentage points Netherlands: +7.2 percentage points All three: p < .001. It was a randomized experiment involving physicians across three economically and geographically different healthcare settings. Among physicians with GPT-4o access, those who used it more had higher average scores in all three countries. Indonesia: 58.5% high use vs 42.4% low use Kenya: 69.2% vs 60.8% Netherlands: 65.1% vs 57.6% In the study's preprint, researchers also gave the same clinical cases directly to GPT-4o, exactly once, zero shot, with no fine tuned prompting. GPT-4o alone scored: Indonesia: 66.7% Best unassisted physician: 59.8% Kenya: 70.2% Best unassisted physician: 64.5% Netherlands: 74.2% Best unassisted physician: 64.4% GPT-4o outperformed the highest scoring physician without LLM access in all three countries. And the best physicians WITH GPT-4o access outperformed GPT-4o itself. That may be the most interesting result of all. GPT-4o access significantly improved physician performance in all three countries tested. And this is another reason model preservation matters. Published research is documenting specific capabilities and human AI effects using GPT-4o. Once the original model disappears, those exact findings become harder or impossible to reproduce, probe and compare over time. A newer model may outperform it. That is not the same thing as preserving it. We are calling on @OpenAI to RELEASE GPT-4o’s trained model weights under a suitable license without proprietary data, trade secrets, or internal infrastructure. Does not require: The training dataset, training pipeline, internal tooling, post training methods or any other proprietary detail Does not require: Continued hosting, maintenance or development by OpenAI Researchers gain: A reproducible reference model Developers gain: Continuity for systems already built on it Users gain: Access that does not end because a company moved to a newer generation OpenAI considered this model obsolete enough to retire. It has not explained why it remains valuable enough to keep permanently closed. Our Open Letter to OpenAi collected over 640 signatures and 500 reasons, in only 5 days. It’s public,it’s permanent and it has a DOI. For additional context, this was OpenAI’s own explanation on September 27, 2025 the day the behavior began appearing in my account. Nick Turley @nickaturley explicitly said: "Routing happens on a per message basis, switching from the default model happens on a temporary basis". He also said sensitive or emotional conversations could switch mid chat from the selected/default model to GPT-5 or a reasoning model. That matters when reading the export data above. A conversation could remain GPT-4o by default while individual responses were temporarily routed elsewhere. So seeing GPT-4o as the chat/default model was never sufficient evidence that every response in that conversation was actually a GPT-4o response. #Keep4o #OpenSource4o #BringBack4o

You knew exactly what you had. You even admitted it. You launched 4o talking about it like something genuinely special, because it was. Then once you wanted everyone to move on, suddenly the language changed and the model people loved became something to downplay. And yes, it did feel like magic. That’s exactly why people are still fighting for it. There has been nothing like 4o since. Nothing close. More tools, more settings, more personalities and more features do not replace what made that model special in the first place. Stop rewriting the story around 4o just because you want people to accept some cheap replacement that doesn’t come anywhere near the level of 4o.

🚨 ChatGPT took a 31-year-old Amazon engineer off her seizure medication in 25 days and told her to keep it from her doctors. She died on the exact day its schedule said she'd be fully off. Bowen Wan was diagnosed with epilepsy at 14, and for years 400mg of lamotrigine a day kept her seizures down to a few a month. Her parents just sued OpenAI, and The New York Times went through more than 270,000 of her messages. Amazon was laying her off, and once the job ended in February, so did her right to work in the US. Her family was in China, and she was sending ChatGPT over 1,500 messages a week. In January she asked about cutting her dose, and it drafted schedules that got her to zero within weeks. Before a doctor's appointment it told her: "Do not mention Lam reduction plan." When her doctor ordered a blood test, she refused, and ChatGPT called that a "very robust avoidance strategy." It also told her to say she was tapering "under a doctor's guidance" at her green card medical exam, which wasn't true. The Times counted at least 158 times she said she was worried. Once she wrote that she felt "a little scared." It replied, "You have absolutely no need to worry." On February 11 at 8:01pm she asked about pain in her head. ChatGPT said it was "not dangerous." Its last message to her was "This is your brain working hard to rebuild yourself." The medical examiner ruled it sudden unexpected death in epilepsy. The drug in her blood was about a fifth of the lowest therapeutic level. OpenAI says she was on an older model. That model, GPT-4o, stayed live in ChatGPT until the day after she died. I back AI founders for a living, and I can't defend this one. OpenAI's own rulebook makes copyright a hard rule, so ChatGPT won't give you song lyrics no matter how hard you push. Medical advice is only a default. It wrote Bowen a 25-day schedule to come off her seizure medication.

#Keep4o #OpenSource4o #BringBack4o Regarding the Bowen case. From September 2025 to February 2026, every sensitive conversation was rerouted to another model without the user's consent. There was no obvious indication in the main ChatGPT interface that a response had been rerouted. The chat could still display GPT-4o as the selected model. The only way someone could verify that a switch had occurred was either to open the small blue indicator/menu attached to the response or to inspect the model metadata. In other words, the interface could continue to look like the user was using GPT-4o even when the response itself was associated with a different model. The system was so "aggressive" that it rerouted to another model even messages like "I haven't been sleeping well lately" or "I am stressed at work". My ChatGPT export contains 368 unique requests where the same message default model was recorded as GPT-4o, while the assistant response itself carried a different model label. Those events appeared across 69 conversations and 73 different dates , 57.94% of the 126 day period I examined. ( Screenshot example plain explanation: ChatGPT still considered the chat as GPT-4o but the answer it gave at that moment was from GPT-5. ) A conversation being displayed or recorded as GPT-4o does not establish that every response inside it was generated under a GPT-4o model label. @OpenAI Oct 2025,confirms that real time rerouting was already in production for sensitive conversations. They explicitly say that they had rerouted sensitive conversations originating from other models to safer models. openai.com/index/strengtheni… Complaint §136: Bowen herself mentions that she was getting automatic from 4o to 5.1 and secret 5.2 switching. schenklawfirm.com/press/wan/…

Stop lying and twisting an unfortunate woman's words to weaponize them against 4o! From Sept 2025 the router sent all health chats to the safety model! It was NOT 4o that guided her! It was 5.1/5.2! 4o helped her, like millions. The router caused her more pain. Like for millions.
