Trend I'm seeing: Developers add complex layers on top of agentic coding tools using skills, instructions, custom loops, agents, MCPs, memory systems, scripts, etc. Then, the harnesses and models get better, and the layer is no longer necessary. In many cases the extra complexity is actually harmful - it burns more tokens for worse results.

I look at it differently I think most people I knew got into the industry because they really liked coding. Now that AI is in the process of affecting every part of that industry its not the ego that is being shattered but process of the craft we got paid to do and loved is being shattered. But of course I think there is many things to be excited about and I do think that even though the old way is going to fade out over the years for the majority of programmers, there is still so much amazing things you can do. Not a doomer
Best part of AI is shattering dev's egos, the worst part of this industry. You are not special. Your code actually sucked like everybody else's. You were never the smartest person. The things my sales guy BIL and designer brother are doing is beyond anything I have done.

Learned this the hard way building headless WordPress sites
A lot of people are now going to learn the hard way that, yes, Wordpress have an “open-source export standard,” but that their content is still fully locked-in by all of the design assumptions of their templates, messy HTML rich text, and idiosyncratic data structures of their plugins. So if you’re about to re-platform, do take the opportunity to move into structured content.

I've never unintentionally clicked on more ads on any site than I have on Twitter since Elon took over. There has to be some sort of touch sensitivity tweaking being done for ads. Hopefully anyone buying ads on twitter understands that a ton of the click throughs are mistakes.

💯
Editing a menu on your site just isn’t the same as editing page content. The user experience just has to be different. Classic WordPress had a great solution with the concept of “menu locations” and simple visual abstraction and everything since has been a regression.

"I love WordPress and am a big advocate for using it where possible but sometimes it's not the right tool for every job." 💯
Replying to @danielhayesmith
We weighed up options last year, but as the survey is a collaboration between the ACF and @wpengine UX Research teams, they used systems and tools that are designed for the job, have less setup, and they have used before. I take your point though, we could have used ACF and WordPress to build it. But then some of our ACF engineers would have to build the survey, structure the data, create the reports - taking them away from plugin development. I love WordPress and am a big advocate for using it where possible but sometimes it's not the right tool for every job. 🔨

Hey @arcinternet are there plans to update the iPad app soon? It's the last thing I need to fully ditch every other browser. Even just expanding the UI and leaving everything else the same would be amazing.

Care about the content administration experience. Make sites that are lovely on the front and easy to manage too. Seriously. I'm not perfect at it, but I strive to get better with every project. #WordPress #webdev
