The most difficult part of this entire struggle is trying to convey information about a deeply technical debate to non-technical people. Statuette is undoubtedly one of the best at succeeding in conveying this.
Yesterday, the network state team published an update to snapchain, which took effect two hours after release. This broke replication to any peer who did not upgrade.
When I worked for merkle, we had a process for releases, so that non-emergency (which this was) updates gave node runners an entire month to upgrade. When neynar took over, with no announcement to change in process, they shortened it to a week window. And apparently, as of yesterday, it has been shortened further to two hours.
This is fine when you're rolling out code to your own fleet. You control it! But when you roll it out, with no announcement, to a p2p network, you're telling people that their nodes don't matter. And that message is true anyway, because any node that isn't theirs is actually read only. When you hear someone posting messages to a snapchain node they own, it doesn't actually participate in any meaningful way – read only nodes simply forward on the message to the NS-controlled validators.
Hypersnap will change this in the next release for our side of the fork – we will resume a more reasonable upgrade cadence, and we will cut ties with their validator set so that any node can actually participate in building data on the network. We aren't surprised to see what happened with the new (sort of) snapchain team, and our bar is so low for disappointment with their team that this is essentially a non-event. They embody neither the ideals of decentralization, nor the technical skills to achieve it.
GM! Today on @farcaster_xyz Resistance HQ Diaries:
Staryear 2026 | Day 9 of the Resistance
Our new overlords assured us we are absolutely FREE to leave once they execute the cockroaches infesting their APIs. I fully support this. Those bad roaches kept telling us to bend the knee!
However, today we found out sleeping is not compatible with freedom... Who knew? 🤷♀️
This morning, my fellow peasants and I were trying to find out whether the cockroaches had been taken care of. To our surprise, we found several farcaster clients frozen in time!
One GitHub archaeological expedition later, we discovered a sneaky chain upgrade whose final activation schedule was merged barely two hours before it took effect!
Perhaps digital felons aren’t on the mailing list but we feel grateful for the warning hidden inside the PS about the nodes that would stop working.
So it turns out, decentralization means spending your Saturday morning figuring out what our new overlords changed while we were asleep.
We’re still investigating the frozen clients and those “bend the knee” errors. But overall, the decentralized democracy experience is going beautifully. My casts eventually escaped through one client and appeared in another. We are now communicating with our homes via digital carrier pigeons. 🙏
to be continued…

Awesome to see @AllYourBase_AYB include us in their NFT mint. I'll repeat it just like I have mentioned it on spaces as well, Cap10 and Yanyan are some of the most based builders in the industry, always standing up and stepping up to help others, asking nothing in return.
I'm looking forward to seeing their collection do very well, and looking forward to many more years of collaboration on base.
Take a peak at their NFTs as well :-)
🐱 Wearing the Toshi hood? Your bag could be holding $TOSHI.
200 bags carry the @Toshi cat-hood layer. 20 of them win, and all 20 prizes are still unclaimed.
💰 In the vault right now: ~$200 in $TOSHI
🎯 Each Toshi winner gets ~10 $TOSHI, plus $AYB:
• 1 winner: ~$50 $AYB
• 5 winners: ~$10 $AYB each
• 14 winners: ~$2.50 $AYB each
Prizes are paid straight into the bag’s own wallet when it’s opened, and the odds are fixed on-chain: 1 in 10 Toshi bags wins.
Only 3 Toshi bags opened so far. 197 still sealed. 👀

Well, this didn’t age well…
Looks like I’m now banned from @farcaster_xyz which tbf was well deserved..😂 But apparently my NO vote got banned too! My status is now “pending.”
Nothing says democracy quite like manually adjusting the numbers until reality looks more flattering. Lol..
A truly groundbreaking experiment in digital democracy. 👏 🙄
just cracked open my All Your Base bag and got a Rare 👀. the bag i just minted is a wallet that levels up, i love this kind of onchain experimentation!
also love this art, ramen life fr

You can be globally compassionate as a person and still feel that your society should have careful borders and that local cultures matter, and should be preserved if they're clearly doing well.
These actually aren't in contradiction.

who makes the rules? who enforces? these are the questions which crypto supposedly divorces... (in your fascist network state known as farcaster, the answer is: not you)

No, I won’t let this go until they start calling it what it is.
These are simply PR tricks designed to influence nontechnical users, and technical users who either have an incentive to believe the narrative and/or simply refuse to see it.
I’ve seen this movie before. This is not my first home wrecked by the ideology.

No, the protocol was previously considered “sufficiently decentralized,” which was already a joke.
Now it’s not decentralized at all:
1/ No independent validators. All 3rd party node validators have been removed and replaced.
2/ Protocol keys are controlled by a single authority that makes decisions on behalf of users, which users sign off with a loyalty pledge.
3/ No open-source client. You have to sign a loyalty pledge just to access their APIs.
4/ Participation is restricted. If you refuse to sign the pledge and surrender your rights to the authority, you cannot participate through the canonical client.
5/ Misleading/irreversible commitments. Users are told they can change their vote later, but that’s not true. Signing the pledge triggers the minting of a soulbound nft to their wallet.
6/ Unilateral terms. The pledge has different versions in the app and on the web, which means its terms (nft metadata) can be changed at the authority’s discretion. Essentially, you’re signing a blank check.
