This is horrifying and yet somehow not at all surprising.

24 years ago Bernard Williams wrote: “If you do not really believe in the existence of truth, what is the passion for truthfulnes a passion for? Or as we might also put it, in pursuing truthfulness, what are you supposedly being true to? This is not just an abstract difficulty….
In the EU ‘parliament’ “Gender critical women and Christians were called a “contamination” by the good-thinking people of the NGOcracy, and everyone in the room nodded enthusiastically.” And this is the organisation so many ‘good-thinking’ people are desperate to rejoin.
No comment on Gaza itself but I’m pretty sure that if someone of high prestige on the left declared that ok yeah it’s not really about Palestine I just hate the jews and its ok to hate the jews, millions of people would go along with it.
That’s what we learned from the trans insanity. The issue is not the issue (for the vast majority of people).
The issue is secondary to being seen to have the same opinion as the people you hold in high esteem. Were one drunk Hasan Piker tweet away from pogroms. I saw it in the European Parliament yesterday. Gender critical women and Christians were called a “contamination” by the good-thinking people of the NGOcracy, and everyone in the room nodded enthusiastically. I know loads of people who have been fired for speaking at work about the importance of telling the truth about sex, but nobody stands up for us because they didn’t want to risk their own social standing.
People will go along with anything at all as long as they think it puts them in the “camp of good”.
I keep thinking about this image because it catches so perfectly what’s wrong with our elites. They have a good impulse: ‘we should encourage people to look at great art’, which then runs headlong into their ideology: ‘but we mustn’t be élitist!’ Result: rank stupidity.
This advert is well-intentioned, but it does have the unfortunate implication that looking at art is a brainless activity.
The belief in something called ‘moderate Islam’ is the comforting fantasy of our political class.
It gets worse.
After stating that these are general views held by all Muslims, he puts it to the test:
«How many of you agree that the punishments described in the Quran and the Sunnah, whether it is death, whether it is stoning for adultery… if it is from Allah and His Messenger, that is the best punishment ever possible for humankind, and that is what we should apply in the world?»
The crowd is unanimous.
Are they radical extremists, part of some fringe sect, or anything like that?
No one raises their hand.
How many just attend normal Sunni mosques in Norway?
Unanimous again.
Well who would have thought it?
If you're curious why the media is spreading so much false information about the riots, consider:
— The French Culture Ministry paid €204.7 million in direct aid to the news media in 2023, of which Le Monde received €8.3 million, L’Humanité €6.5 million and Libération €6.3 million
— The @afpfr runs "fact-checks" in 26 languages, received €120 million from the French state in 2025, against €200.3 million in commercial revenue. @AFP is French government propaganda and disinformation
— European governments are committed through a UN agreement to spread pro-mass migration propaganda by funding it directly. The “migration compact,” which 152 governments voted for in the UN General Assembly in 2018, commits them to “stopping allocation of public funding... to media outlets that systematically promote intolerance, xenophobia, racism and other forms of discrimination towards migrants," which is broadly interpreted to cover criticism of mass migration policies
— To maintain control over news media, the European Commission funds a network of 15 fact-checking hubs with tens of millions of euros, and its rules require platforms to give priority to notices from “trusted flaggers.”
— Governments fund think tanks to produce reports, including ones demanding censorship, that the news media cover sympathetically and editorialize in support of.
— The @ISDglobal in London — which demands censorship of people it disagrees with on climate change, gender, and migration, refuses to speak with journalists, and lists a phony address — lists among its funders the British Foreign Office, the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security and Justice, the German Foreign Office and the European Commission, along with Google and Microsoft.

— Public reported in 2024 that ISD and the German fact-checker Correctiv, both government-funded, had spread false claims about German farmers and opposition politicians.
Ever since Max Weber sociology has prided itself on being ‘value-free’, so it’s no surprise that this sociologist refers to all the looting and burning and assaulting as ‘some incidents’, and refuses to condemn them.
Tout s’explique…
somebody explain to me why @BentaAntRaho is wrong
Europe is now full of millions of young men, who are economically useless, resentful, lack any civic culture, education, self reflection or empathy, raised on TikTok pranks, sports gambling, Gangsta rap & victim culture.
Indiscriminate violence against society and its institutions has become the only means to break out of the monotony of poverty and every day misery. So any opportunity and exuse - Palestine, football matches, school funding, whatever - will be used to destroy things.
The state has poured significant resources into them, and while the Left always argues it wasn't enough, it never will be enough, because - on average - they largely completely lack the skills, mindset and interest to break out of the cycle of misery & violence. In the worst of cases, this propensity for random violence is then funnelled into Islamism, organised crime etc. further tearing apart society.
Sure, social work, education, will help a little - but the only thing that will realistically improve the situation will be state force and long term mass-incarceration, for the protection of the rest of society.
Am reading up on RBO’s recent Parsifal productions and came across this review from the late, wonderful Anna Picard of the 2001 production which made me laugh out loud independent.co.uk/arts-enter…

For heaven’s sake, leftists, listen to someone who actually knows what they’re talking about.
Islam means submission. A good Muslim submits fully and completely. A bad Muslim doesn’t exist. Because a Muslim who doesn’t submit goes to hell as a nonMuslim. This has been drummed into Muslims for 14 centuries. Expecting Muslims to change because you ask nicely is as delusional as saying “Islam means peace.”
Corbyn talks about the ‘death and destruction’ that followed on from 9/11, but the death and destruction of 9/11 itself, and the causal role of that horror in what followed, simply doesn’t exist for him. People like him seem to inhabit a different universe.
Imagine writing an entire screed on the anniversary of a massive atrocity carried out by Islamic terrorists in the name of Islam, deliberately not mentioning Islam, or jihadism, once (ie, the driving religious worldview behind the attacks), but shoehorning in Islamophobia then having a go at the West.
These people are absolutely morally bankrupt, deeply sinister, cultish agitators. Everything they say and do is predictable in advance, and while they generally claim to be secular they are motivated by quasi-religious dogma.
