👋 @joshilewis @stephan_swart imo I would rather get someone that knows the business and systems well even if they are not technical, else you don’t have enough context to decouple along the right lines. Engineers need to understand CI/CD and deploy little, safe chunks regularly

Wow shows how we force patterns onto information. Works even when you think greenstorm or brainneedle

My take now is that performance inside a software team is self-evident to those inside, especially if the team has clear direction, if CI followed and if feedback&communication valued. Then courage+respect to improve! XP I guess. Measurements more useful for temp problem solving
The #gpt3 language model is fascinating. What struck me was that you can fine tune it to what you need with a just few simple examples without data science knowledge: this means language models could be used by many people and orgs (not just Google) for many things

And time might just be a perception of entropy if I understood Carlo Rovelli in Order of Time nature.com/articles/d41586-0…. So entropy might be the real killer

Imo only works well if you have something close to an onion architecture with tests as specs, not arcane checks. Many talk about how tdd drives good design, but not clear about what good tests and good design is. Also way too little “see what I built” vs preaching and metaphors

Thanks for this. Understanding how knowledge accumulates is an important topic for everyone. I think most of us are taught an incomplete micro view of the scientific process (focussing on a single experiment) and not how it actually grows through a critical community of experts

Agree. Really impressed with the cohesive message about the tough decision and trade-off that had to be made. Introducing stimulus and assistance in same speech as shutdown... gave the impression of a semi-controlled shutdown
Well done @CyrilRamaphosa! Great address! Good plan. Hope the Public Protector start arrests with the Zuptas. #COVID19SouthAfrica

Explains why a hard problem can often be solved with a good walk
Tip to UI developers looking for a job: make an effort with your CV copy and use a decent photo - you are building a user interface
“The Order of Time” by Italian physicist Carlo Rovelli gets a full 5/5 mind blown rating 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 (my criteria for holiday reading). A rare mix of humanity/appreciation for the personal perspective and the most hardcore, almost alien scientific conclusions @carlorovelli
This makes me think of the architecture book “The Timeless Way of Building” by Christopher Alexander. Beautiful living villages are built without architects by building and sharing a “patterns language”

Are they an outlier though? Developers now get by fine with open source / cloud provider tools only, even IDEs, so your product has to be really special (like JetBrains’)
The hardest step of your flow seems to be the “throwing out”, but I suspect the sunken cost fallacy has less of a byte when changes are small like yours (15min)

Agree. And imo the amount of “sucks” a technology gets is often in proportion to how much useful stuff was created with that tech, which illustrates your point clearly.
