White guilt museum ghosts "White Guilt" documentary.
In August, my father, Shelby Steele, and I asked the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture (@NMAAHC) to host a public screening of our new documentary, "White Guilt," followed by a conversation with the two of us.
The museum has done this for other films like "13th" and "I Am Not Your Negro."
Instead of an answer about a public screening, we were sent an event rental application. Unsure of what to do, we filled it out.
Then we were told our dates were unavailable, even though the museum's public calendar showed nothing on those dates. When we asked about other dates for a public screening, we were offered a private rental for $35,000.
We clarified that this is not what we had asked for. We wanted a public screening and said we were flexible on dates. The museum then stopped answering us.
@FoxNews asked the museum for comment. It didn't answer them either.
My father was born into segregation in Chicago and marched for civil rights.
He has spent decades writing about how white guilt transformed America and the West after the civil rights movement. That is why we believed our documentary belongs at this museum. Doesn't this museum belong to all Americans?
@RobertSchmad of @FoxNews interviewed @jasonrileywsj, @GlennLoury and @carolmswain. Loury watched the film and said that screening it "would certainly be an appropriate use of the platform" of the museum.
Our request remains the same: a screening at this museum. We would appreciate an answer.

Trying to treat this as criminal activity when in fact it's war is a fool's errand.

Saint Joan of Arc gave her life for God and France.
Here we are centuries later and a rioter in Paris climbs her statue like its playground equipment.
This is an absolute disgrace!!!

Why the heck is he doing campaign ads?! He's such an arrogant person. Jeopardy has to find a new host.
#WAPol: "I'm Ken Jennings, host of Jeopardy, here with a pop quiz. Did you know Initiative 645 would give millionaires and billionaires a $13B tax break ... It doesn't take a quiz show host to know 645 is wrong for Washington."
Ken Jennings stars in this new ad by No on 645.

One of the most shocking stories of #surrogacy #exploitation I've ever read:
- A single mother of three working as a waitress and struggling to feed her kids
- Living with a physically abusive ex-boyfriend
- Answered a wealthy gay couple's Facebook post. They agreed to pay her a measly £60-£90/month and promised to help her move out of her abuser's home (they didn't)
- Paid her own travel to clinics for nearly two years
- So poor she couldn't buy her children Christmas dinner
- Once pregnant, the monthly payments never came save one lump sum of £500
- Lost her job after time off to recover from bleeding during the pregnancy, had nothing to eat
- Gay couple blamed her hormones when she cried about her broken radiator
- After ultrasounds they took her to expensive restaurants, then sent her home to feed her kids rice. Her therapist: they are "buying you with that food."
- The men swapped in a new therapist who scolded her for not trusting them and exploited her childhood abandonment and homelessness to manipulate her
- Never saw a single test result. The men even dictated the postpartum underwear in her hospital bag
- In her seventh month she was bleeding and the baby wasn't growing properly. The buyers didn't come, they extended their month-long European vacation
- After her C-section, she was shut in a back room while they showed off the baby to visitors
- When she refused to sign the discharge, both fathers and both grandmothers screamed at her as she lay in bed, called her a baby thief, and threatened to take her other children and send her to jail. A lawyer threatened criminal charges. After six hours, she signed
- The biological father got that signature by promising her money. She never received it
- Left on the street with her C-section wound and a dead phone, and had to charge it at a café to call an Uber home
- They promised she would always be part of his life. She hasn't seen him in two years.
But she says the worst part is… she only got to hold her baby for 10 minutes.
This is surrogacy. Shut it down.

Joshua Wong, one of Hong Kong's most prominent pro-democracy activists, turns 30 today. He should be in the prime of life, developing a career, perhaps starting a family. Instead, he is languishing in a prison cell, where he has spent much of the past decade.
Wong faces the prospect of spending the rest of his life behind bars. His crime? Peacefully – though persistently – demanding the freedoms that were promised to Hong Kong.
Wong was first jailed nine years ago, when – together with pro-democracy legislator Nathan Law and student activist Alex Chow – he became one of Hong Kong's first political prisoners. At that time he was sentenced to six months, but was released on bail after 69 days.
I organised a campaign for the three of them, with an open letter signed by politicians and public figures from around the world. I thought at the time that their sentences were completely unjust. With hindsight, that first prison term was just the beginning.

Earlier this year, Claire Lai was diagnosed with cancer. She recently began treatment in the UK.
Her father heard the news from a prison cell in Hong Kong, where he has been held for nearly 6 years.
In an interview with @MaryMargOlohan of @realDailyWire, Claire said the hardest part has been hearing about her “dad crying whenever he talks about it.”

Time is running out — for Trump and Jimmy Lai.
Lai is, in the words of the Wall Street Journal, “the world’s most famous political prisoner.” He is a Solzhenitsyn for our time. A devout Christian who spends much of his time in prison sketching scenes from Christ’s crucifixion.

On @cnn, Sebastien Lai told @jimsciutto that the President of the United States has asked Xi Jinping to free Jimmy Lai multiple times. So have the G7, the European Union and leaders around the world. Beijing still won’t let him go. Jimmy has been held for nearly six years, and his health is failing.
“All they’ve essentially found is that he’s guilty of journalism.”

🚨 Another federal department just weighed in on the Potter Valley dams which provide water throughout Northern California.
The U.S. Department of the Interior told the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) not to let PG&E tear out Scott Dam and Cape Horn Dam until a replacement water supply is actually built and running.
Interior says the replacement, called NERF:
❌ isn’t funded to build
❌ won’t be online before the dams come out
❌ barely delivers water in summer
❌ has nowhere to store the winter water it takes
Their words: the dams should not “come down on a promise.”
“Water supply for farms and communities is not a secondary amenity of this proceeding. It is a direct effect on the human environment under the National Environmental Policy Act. The Commission should treat it as such.”

So 8:30 AM @AmericanAir from Chicago to Hartford gets delayed to 930AM, then to 12, then 3PM, now to 6PM. "Maintenance team" is working on "your plane." Exasperating. Lousy treatment, stringing-along customers precluding alternatives. Will discuss on @VDHanson podcast.

I am the filmmaker behind the White Guilt documentary. The film has been out this week and yet not one person has been able to leave a review or rate the film. I have received complaints about this. Can we address this issue ASAP since reviews are key to the film’s success. Thank you.
