"But I beseech You of Your kindness to have mercy on me—not the lesser mercy which You show temporarily for physical distress, but Your greater mercy which You show for the distress of the soul. Have mercy on me, and forgive me my sin. Amen."

"Either you reclaim the theological robustness of the authentic natural law tradition, including its eschatological dimension, or you dress up ‘dichotomies’ as – theologically supported – ‘distinctions’ in a bid to stay relevant and credible within the secular 𝑝𝑜𝑙𝑖𝑠."

Most of the natural law "renaissance" of the past 30-40 years has consisted of following the second option, courtesy of John Finnis, Robert George, Jean Porter, and the like.

"Write for an agenda." No. No. Write what is in front of you. Avoid fads. Engage, do not pander. To hell with what the politics are. Never pander.

The center cannot hold, so those who insist on remaining there plunge into the abyss.
Is there any reason people who identify with the “center” are aways on the verge of something crazy?

"Wow, this is just as annoying to watch as that stupid glasses girl anime I tried onc- wait, it's the same show."
Studio GoHands always flexing the Character Moments and Hair Animation 😭

The necessary basis for combating this trend is to deny repeatedly, unceasingly, that "sola scriptura" rightly understood means excluding church tradition. Rather, the Reformers taught that "tradition is not inimical to sound biblical interpretation, but an aid to it."
I believe we are going to see more and more Protestant churches affirm polygamy. It's actually not a huge step once you adopt the sort of hyper-literal Biblicism that's already the de facto approac in that world. It won't be the mainstream view, but could get traction.

Incidentally, I like to think it's not a coincidence that this guy pivoted to Jew-posting shortly after the above open letter was published.

The Aesthete will annoy you. You will not want to read to the end, and you probably won't. But you'll be annoyed by it, putting it down and months later still being ticked off by it, like it's a belligerent girlfriend. It isn't. Read The Aesthete. thepillarist.com/some-books/

Malfoid stans insisting their anime-inflected fan-fiction will usher in literary renewal at the precise moment Japan is trying to explain to Westerners that "anime and manga (which we love) are slop, actually."

Not implausible, considering Arthur and Molly had seven children.
I'm retconning the Weasleys to be Catholic and you can't stop me.

Now live on the site: in a fully automated future, two administrators are called down to tend to one of the sorry engineers tasked with keeping the AI from running amok. TERMINAL - novelette, 7.7k words [link in reply post]
Started work on an Omelas-ish short story about AI (probably not what you think). I expect it done well in time for Halloween, but I'm thinking I'll submit it to a few rags once it's done. Shouldn't take more than a week or two in the interest of keeping it short (<4k words).

Dragon Ball is inspired by Journey to the West, but nobody calls it "Journey to the West fan-fiction." That's because it's different enough to be recognized as an independent story with its own distinctive characters and settings.
What do you think short story adaptations of existing myths, legends, and other tales are if not "fanfic"...? Y'all are suddenly way too smug and pretentious

Malfoid, like much modern fan-fiction, is not merely inspired by its source material—it takes characters and settings wholesale and makes only minimal changes, leaving most elements virtually intact. This is inherently a less creative enterprise, not conducive to author growth.

You have no use for Roger Scruton because he once criticized the act of self-pleasuring during intercourse. I have no use for Roger Scruton because he later recanted the view that revulsion for homosexuality (i.e., mutual self-pleasuring) is justifiable. We are not the same.

"Notably, Burgess’s historiography is not secular, meaning that he does not dismiss professed religious belief as a smokescreen for the “real” driving forces of history, i.e., material concerns." —James Clark
