Sinead sang #NothingComparesToYou better than #Prince did. And he said so. #SineadOConnor was special...and I'm glad that I was around to see her from the beginning. Worst/best part of getting older: You've seen the best. 100% daughter of #Ireland
Sinèad O’Connor was brave. I’ll never forget her ripping up a picture of the pope on SNL out of protest. She suffered tragedies, she stood firm and never compromised. I admired her. She also did the impossible, by doing a Prince song better than Prince. This bit always gets me.

Soul music is not about "ooh, baby, baby." And I know about soul music because I was born and grew up around where Sam Cooke sang...and #Prince knew that #Sinead had it in her, too-that's why she got his song. But her voice was #Ireland right down to the ground. #SineadOConnor

Sinead O’Connor has died today. She was fearless, outspoken, brave. She was famous for calling out the roman Catholic Church for abuse of children and then ripping a photo of the pope at the time. This caused controversy at the time but she was right. RIP #SineadOConnor

After a surreal few days, I’m delighted that we have navigated a way through this. I want to thank you all for the incredible support, particularly my colleagues at BBC Sport, for the remarkable show of solidarity. Football is a team game but their backing was overwhelming. 1/4

This video from 2018 is on the BBC's website and says, "Gary is not involved in any news or political output for the BBC, and as such, any expression of his personal political views, does not affect the BBC's impartiality." What changed in 2023? #IStandWithGaryLineker

Today we remember Tony Hancock, whom we lost #OTD 25 June 1968. Best remembered for his BBC radio and TV shows from 1954 to 1961, over 160 episodes in all. We thank him and his writers, Ray Galton and Alan Simpson, for the wonderful comic legacy and the decades of laughter.

This happens to high-concept ideas. They work best with a finite narrative arc. But now that most of them are on TV rather than film, initial success leads to stretching the idea over many seasons, which means bringing in random beats nothing to do with the original concept.
