This is an incredibly prescient move. Opening the aperture of the fund's mandate will allow @cdixon @eddylazzarin @guywuolletjr @liz_harkavy to support founders developing AI native products and networks - including those that enable machines and agents to transact in stablecoins and access deeper capital markets via onchain financial products, as well as many other genuinely original types of companies, both software and hardware. The space has changed a lot since I started working in crypto in 2016. Every day I meet great founders using crypto under the hood but not marketing their companies as such. I worked with Chris for almost 4 years and can confidently say he is an exceptional thinker and investor. Once in a generation. I predict that within a year or two a16z frontier's portfolio will include all of the important emerging companies powering the machine age.

If you’re building a network powered by distributed hardware, run your parameters through this tool built by @mustafakqazi to evaluate your quality control layer 👇

One misnomer in Silicon Valley is that crypto has not produced big winners. A few years where the most valuable company started was a crypto company or protocol. 2014 - Sharing Economy - Tether (>$X00B) 2017 - Crypto - Binance (>$100B) 2018 - VR/AR - Solana (>$50B)
Just a reminder: Investors have no clue which ideas will actually work. Some of the best companies in the world were passed by hundred of investors originally because investors couldn’t see the future. look at what the "hype" was every year versus the companies that won big

Come work with me @a16zcrypto! We are hiring an investment partner for our crypto team. We’re a small high trust group that focuses on investing in everything related to blockchains including DeFi, onchain finance, decentralized AI, and the infrastructure to support those applications. If you are an onchain degenerate arbitraging between vaults, love working with founders at an early stage, and/or feel passionate about decentralized AI, please talk to us or refer a friend. Our investment partners help identify and select the companies we invest in, thinking critically about new technologies and market trends. They also serve as mentors for the companies they invest in, helping them make progress across product, GTM, fundraising, etc We’re looking for: - Strong DeFi expertise either as a builder directly, a power user, or an investor - Interest in working with protocols and start ups at every stage - A strong network of onchain frens, especially those starting new projects If you’re interested, please send me a DM or refer a friend!

If we imagine a world in which a huge share of protocol usage is agentic, where do our current designs break down? how well can we predict the new behavioral paradigms? In this piece i point out a few possible scenarios and where research should focus to address them.

@VoltCapital was the first fund we pitched Plural to, their belief in has fueled us since day one. As ambitious as our plans were, @soona, @janehk, and @rsarrow pushed us still to think even bigger. In a tough capital market, all three of them rolled up their sleeves, strategized alongside us everyday, and had the kind of strong, unwaivering conviction in us + our vision that every founder dreams to see from their investors.

Our 2nd year running P2P: forum, a unique program that helps pre-seed founders go from building protocols to building companies. Not an accelerator, but one-of-a-kind operating support to level up builders at the earliest stages. Today we're excited to announce @amasad & @zebriez will be leading workshop sessions.
