Here's a JS library with every function in the world. Ish...
DWIM asks Gemini Nano to hallucinate the implementation, then runs it in your browser.
DWIM.reverse('hi');
I thought I was overdue for some grr's from @feross and @ShriramKMurthi....

I've had a lot of experience with contextual autoescape but have poor _intuition_ what about attention mechanisms makes it hard to apply it LLMs.
Liked @shintre_saurabh of Realm Lab talk on propagating taint in LLMs addressing primarily because it informed that gut sense.
If you're also at Unprompted this week, I'm finding @pedrofortuna's pfortuna.github.io/unprompte… cool for planning what talks to go to and when.
To Quizabella of SCB - I've subconsciously adopted your "You are correct!" delivery and it's awesome.
Also if you folks haven't seen @SCB_Ben and @jonkerlin do youtube.com/@SuperCarlinBrot… - you're missing out on some of the most wholesome & joyous content on the internet.
I have a online ticket the Unprompted conference next week (unpromptedcon.org/) which looks very interesting!
It's free to the person who wants it and who, in the next day, replies with an AI or security pun that makes me laugh.
In other news, I'll be there in person.
TIL that NASA erased their original high resolution tapes of the moonlanding because of budget cuts. :-(

Not mentioned in the NPR article is that an intern, Gary George, bought 3 of the backup tapes in 1976 containing the only remaining footage we have.
If a computer's useful state lives partly in tissue, what exactly goes in the backup?
Prompted partly by @KentonVarda's argument about intelligence, fragility and rights, I wrote about organoids and restoring a computer partly made of organic tissue.

After spending September reading 24 poems, I’m trying something different in October: 24 drawings made with mostly one continuous line.
These are the first four faces. Twenty more to go, assuming my pen and I remain friends.

I guess this domain will be rather valuable when they have to rename the company to avoid being the "enemy".
Kudos to anticipating this in 2002, random domain sitter.

PhotoCraft says it cloned Photoshop from public specs and observed behaviour. What does that say about obfuscation?
It can make secrets/algo in code harder to recover. It does much less if you can rebuild the app by watching what it does.
Whitebox vs blackbox matters again.
Don't be fooled - Humans don't reason either.
I loved this article and struggled applying Graepl's definition of reasoning to myself.
When applying their definition of reasoning to humans, it's interesting what gets dropped and what extras get added.

Ten years ago, AlphaGo’s Move 37 shocked the world.
It wasn’t intuition alone that produced it. AlphaGo could search possible futures, test its instincts and reason about what would happen next.
In a new piece for @techreview, I argue that today’s most advanced AI systems are still missing something fundamental.
LLMs are remarkably capable, but generating longer chains of thought is not the same as genuine reasoning. They typically have no explicit, inspectable record of what they know, what remains uncertain, what evidence supports a conclusion or whether genuine progress has been made.
This is why I recently left @GoogleDeepMind. I believe we need a fresh approach to machine reasoning, drawing on some of the architectural lessons from AlphaGo.
If AI is going to produce trustworthy and genuinely novel insights in science, medicine and beyond, we need systems whose conclusions arise from an auditable process of evidence, inference and belief revision.
No ad for a product has had me go from watching the ad to signing up as quick as this. I'm hoping it lives up to it's promise but it is able to do even a fraction of what is shown here, it would be a game change...ahem Fo shure.
I led engineering at Google DeepMind.
Today, I'm proud to introduce Fo to give personal AI something no lab ever has... Humans.
Other personal AI's pretend AI can do everything. Fo employs humans to do tasks that AI cannot.
- 2x better at real-world task completion (beats other agents by 69%)
- 94% trust rate (4x less likely to leak private info vs Muse, Instinct)

Not every famous poem is for everyone.
In "The Flea," John Donne turns an insect into an elaborate argument for sex. I could admire the cleverness, but I still found the speaker more distasteful than charming.

Apple watch said my sleep score last night was "Very High" - this is a first in a while. It's ridiculous how happy that made me AND psychologically makes me feel as if I must have slept well!

Tagore's English "Paper Boats" is lovely. The fuller Bengali poem is lonelier: the child is stuck at home while boats bearing his name escape into the world.

I was working on a project today and what should sneak up on me but the absolute need...absolute need!... to solve the problem requires virtualizing the DOM. Again.
It's only been half a decade since my last go to look into this abyss & witness the darkness of the soul.

I recorded a short video about the first week of Two Dozen Poems, ending with a reading of Hilaire Belloc's "Tarantella."

"While unlikely, we cannot rule out that de-identified data derived from their usage of our products helped improve our models."
#mathdrama vs #aidrama
We congratulate Levent Alpöge and Tristan Buckmaster on their remarkable mathematical work.
We (the researchers and the agents) did not see any of their work through any means until they released it publicly — in particular, no specific user data was accessed in order to solve this problem.
While unlikely, we cannot rule out that de-identified data derived from their usage of our products helped improve our models.
However, our proofs differ significantly and even the precise results proved are different in the Euler case (forced vs. unforced).
My friend Trudy sent me this poem - and her own translation. I can’t stop repeating:
"Get drunk; get drunk without respite! On wine, poetry or virtue, as you choose."
It made me want to go outside and make more of life.
Day 4 of Two Dozen Poems:
Baudelaire tells us to "get drunk" continually - with wine, poetry or virtue.
For me, it evokes creative flow: the rush when things come easily, the ache when it leaves, and the desire to find it again.
