#BadGirl has been watched... More than anything, I love how this film has allowed me to have varied conversations with different sets of people who have watched this show. We discussed... 1) Growing up in Chennai 2) Falling in love 3) Clandestine meetings during excursions 4) Rumour mills working overtime around us, and we're letting it run because it presents a much better story than our reality 5) Love, rejection, love again, rejection again 6) The need for a group of friends who don't just pick up the pieces after a breakup but stand by you to ensure you don't do anything stupid 7) Random strangers who seem like messengers of the universe who swoop in at the right time to say the right things 8) Privilege 9) What it takes to say a yes or a no in a relationship 10) Intersectionality 11) Feminism 12) Understanding parental advice before it's too late, and understanding that they aren't always right 13) The highlights of the film, right from the cinematography and editing to the music and lyrics 14) Relatability, both the abundance of it and the lack of it 15) Did we like the film because it is actually good, or are we projecting it because the film gives us a few answers to long-brewing questions in our head 16) What does Ramya want when she is asking for freedom? What did we want when we asked for freedom? 17) How do we navigate the social media responses to the film 18) Should we defend/attack the film or can we just move on from it? 19) What film will @varshabharath03 do next? And... 20) Falling in love. Basically... I liked Bad Girl. I also had issues with it. And the best part... the film allows itself to be liked and disliked in equal measure, and for giving that space, Varsha and team Bad Girl will always have my respect and love.
