Theo Walcott makes a valid point about Manchester United’s struggles. Last season, some fans argued that United could have challenged for the title if Michael Carrick had been in charge from the beginning. Now, with Arsenal sitting on 21 points and Carrick’s United managing just seven, suddenly the manager is the problem again. The truth is that Manchester United’s problems go far beyond the dugout. You cannot keep changing managers and expect different results with the same underperforming players. Some of those players have been around for too long, and it is time for a serious squad overhaul. Players like Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire should not be untouchable. Look at what Mikel Arteta did when he arrived at Arsenal. He understood that rebuilding required difficult decisions. He moved on players who no longer fitted his vision and gradually built a younger, hungrier squad with fresh energy and the right mentality. Manchester United need to follow a similar path. Give Carrick the opportunity to build with quality players who are hungry to compete. Sacking another manager will only delay the inevitable. You cannot build a new era with players who belong to the old one.
