Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma wondered whether the newer team members truly understood its impact on the series.
Some devs had never played the original before joining the project. Art director Aya Shida said she was amazed that such a polished game had been made 28 years ago.
Aonuma explained that rebuilding the game could give the team new ideas for future Zelda titles:
"By actually rebuilding it as a full remake, it may trigger new insights that they can carry forward into future development."

I see this as natural outcome of trying to make video games anything more than a video game.
The gaming industry has already lost 10,977 jobs in 2026, according to the ASGC Games Industry Layoffs Tracker.
That’s more than the entire 2025 total, and the year isn’t even over. The tracker estimates that losses could reach 13,077 by December.
Around 35 studios have also shut down, with 161 studios affected by layoffs.
>BioWare: EA closed the studio and canceled the next Mass Effect, which was still in early development.
>Sucker Punch: Around 24–26 employees were laid off.
>Microsoft is planning around 3,200 job cuts
>Arkane Lyon: Around 217 jobs are at risk.
>Supermassive Games: More than 70 employees were laid off.
>DON’T NOD: Up to 85 jobs could be affected by its restructuring.
For comparison, the industry lost 15,631 jobs in 2024 and 9,197 in 2025. 2026 has already surpassed last year’s numbers
