Relatedly, I'm freelancing for a bit here, but I'm looking for a new full-time role. I'm a widely published opinion writer and an experienced editor. After CT, my priority is getting into a stable, principled newsroom with a broad audience. If you know of something, get in touch!

Democracy of this kind cannot last long; it must, and inevitably will, give way to some more settled [by which he meant authoritarian] social order." Walter Lippmann, quoted by James Davidson Hunter.

Frank DeVito confronts the practical side of loving your place: "As time passes, I realize [that] this idea of loving one’s home, one’s land, one’s place often threatens to exist more as an abstract idea than as a lived reality." frontporchrepublic.com/2026/…

I was stationed at the top of Amarillo last night, writing poems on demand for a local childhood literacy fundraiser. I wrote 12 poems in 3 hrs. Topics included: dachshunds, BFFs, middle age romance, hot firemen, corky-poos, fast cars, city life. All poems rhymed. Few were good.

“Death makes people uncomfortable, says Joseph Orso in *On the Threshold of Worlds*, and in the days around a loved one’s passing, it’s a gift to have something to do. And there can be plenty to do, especially if, as in Orso’s experience described in the book, you decide to care for and bury the deceased yourself.” —Shana Goodwin plough.com/articles/a-pictur…
