I feel this clip is analogous to working in academia. 😂 Criminal Penguins - Frozen Planet - BBC youtu.be/MlbxRBfGAr0?si=7Qyu… via @YouTube

I’ve just spent an emotional hour watching this. Such a beautiful concept that is heartbreaking and inspiring in equal measure. 🙏🏻 Please, please make time in your schedule to watch this because everyone needs to hear Jane’s message to us. 🌏 netflix.com/gb/title/8205319…

It makes me so sad to see these little babies 🐰 for sale in @PetsatHome when a) anyone can take them home and b) @rspcaoxon bunnery is full of vaccinated, neutered buns looking for homes & will help people get setup properly. Please stop selling baby rabbits @PetsatHome. 🙏🏻

An interesting breakdown of the calculation behind the much-quoted "10 million AMR deaths by 2050". 🦠💊It's important to have these estimates but also important to understand who came up with them and how. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/article…

Do books remind you of holidays? 📚 My fave combo was reading @KMFollett’s Pillars of the Earth whilst on honeymoon in Britanny visiting beautiful cathedrals. 🏛️ I think this combo also works though - reading @VicHislop’s sequel to The Island (amazing book) whilst in Malta. 🤩

I’ve just finished reading War Doctor and it’s catapulted to no. 1 spot of non-fiction books I think we all need to read. 🙏🏻 Eye-opening and inspiring - that is what heroism looks like. davidnottfoundation.com/ (Nos 2-4 also included here for your interest!)

So. Much. Plastic. Currently staying in a beautiful port in Malta surrounded by heavy industry and there is plastic everywhere. 👀 What are we doing?!?

#FungalFact 30: The largest organism on #Earth isn’t a whale or a tree — it’s a #fungus. In #Oregon, the honey fungus (#Armillaria ostoyae) stretches over 9 km², may weigh 35,000 tons, and could be up to 8,000 years old. A true underground giant! #mycology #nature #Mushroom #PhD

Can any #gardeners settle this for me? I think calendula, mother-in-law reckons marigold, phone AI reckons it could be either. 😂

Got hubs wearing a respirator while sorting out the compost bin because I am now ultra paranoid about fungal spores. 🦠😷 #Aspergillus #aspergillosis

Update: looks like Aspergillus to me! Have since been reassured by an audiologist that it’s a cotton wool bud stuck in my ear that’ll work its way out. 🤨 V concerned to have received 2 x misdiagnoses & that I only got antifungal drops bc I suspected #otomycosis & persisted! xitter.cf/jenmgshe/status/195566…
When you culture your ear fungus and it actually works. 😂 Would everyone agree #Aspergillus? 🤞🏻I’m going to give it another 24 hours to see if it pigments. #otomycosis (Jokes aside, I’m reassured to have a culture for ID & MIC testing. 🙏🏻) @NormanRhijn @MycologyRefManc @MRCcmm

Science doesn’t need to go according to plan; it just needs to lead to a discovery. If doesn’t have to be done alone or together with a buddy; there just needs to be a discovery. It doesn’t need to happen fast or slow; just as long as there’s a discovery, then everybody is happy.

Ok #mycology peeps! Clinical Q. I’ve been deaf in my right ear this week so went to get ear wax removed today - audiologist saw something unusual so referred me to GP. Prescribing nurse says it’s otitis media & has prescribed steroid drops. Doesn’t that look like #otomycosis? 🍄
