CASE STUDY THREAD In this thread, I give periodic updates on two case study sites. The two sites are in very different niches (“Outdoors” and “Entertainment”) and are being built with different philosophies. I talk about work done, and subsequent site performance.

In many cases, it takes the same amount of time and effort to rank a page for a high ticket product (e.g. $500+), as it does to rank a page for a very cheap product. Do with that knowledge what you will....

The best 'shortcut' to success is getting help from someone who is already successful at what you are doing. Buy their time (consulting) or their course. Will help you know what TO do, and also what NOT to do to get the results you are after. Very small price to pay.

Meta titles don't have the impact on ranking that they once did, but for your home page, and other important pages, make sure you optimize them. They are a great way to give search engines a really clear message about what your site/page is about.

You can: Sell other peoples stuff (Affiliate Marketing) Sell your own stuff (Ecommerce) Sell attention (Paid Ads) Sell information (eBooks/Courses) Sell phone calls (Rank'n'Rent) Sell your time (Consulting) Pick one and go!

Affiliate marketing is great because you can use it to test the market for something, without having to invest in a product supply chain. Try and rank something, test the market, if the demand is high, and you can rank, it might be worth sourcing your own product.

Make sure you understand the Schema basics and use it where relevant. I've found it helps rank new pages quicker, and also gives a slight edge over pages without it.

If you aren't analyzing your competitor's websites, start now. Look at what keywords they rank for, and what pages get the most traffic. Run your own race of course, but learn from everyone else around you. Be better.

Reminder: You don't need to change your website theme. You need to write another blog post.

So many commissions you earn in affiliate marketing will be for products you don't directly promote (on bigger sites like Amazon etc.) Analyze those for new content, even new niche ideas.

Just ticked over seven days without a domain purchase. Longest stretch in a while. Probably because I'm on holidays...

More and more, you will need a real 'persona' connected to content for it to rank and build authority. Get ready to go public or start building some fake ones now, with all social profiles etc built out.
