3% of “critical” software security bugs, in all of recorded history, have been found in the last month. This is on pace to find another ~100,000 bugs this year alone, adding ~26% more vulnerabilities to the all time total Do you realize how fucking insane that is?

Fear Not Podcast | @drmoore What does it mean to be human in the age of AI? Dr. Russell Moore joins Mike Cosper for a conversation about the soul, the image of God, and what happens when machines can imitate more of what we do. In this episode: • Why intelligence isn’t the same as personhood • How AI companions could change our relationships and us • Finding purpose when AI can do your job • Why a convincing sermon isn’t the same as being there for someone Fear Not explores faith and Superintelligence: how people of faith can face a changing world with wisdom rather than panic. Watch the full conversation below.

Your ability to learn matters more than your job title in the age of AI. @MikeCosper "We spent fifteen years telling people, “Learn to code, learn to code, learn to code.” And now the most important thing in the world is, hey, we actually need people who understand the human experience and know how to articulate it. @drmoore "I said to a young person not long ago, I said, “Look, we’re coming into a time where what’s going to be needed is adaptability.” Don’t think of yourself as an accountant. Think of yourself as somebody who has the skill and discipline to be able to learn accounting. And you don’t know what ten years from now you’re going to be called upon to do, but you’re the kind of person who has known how to do this. And you can build upon those skills and be adaptable."

Holy shit
So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

Last month, we demonstrated high-rate alchemy: turning mercury into real, stable gold, beating CERN’s record by a factor of 10. Last week, we enriched isotopes in the world’s most powerful plasma centrifuge, beating the Soviet record that stood for 40 years. Now, we’re building a fusion reactor in San Francisco to achieve record power density.

AI can imitate human emotion. That doesn’t make it human. @MikeCosper models are anthropomorphizing, and they’re emulating human emotion and affection, right?” @jessebryan "This is why this conversation has to be had by people of faith right now. In 2027, the Optimus factory is ramping up 10,000 Optimus a year, which is the Tesla robot. Keep in mind, that’s just Tesla. The amount of robots that are about to flood the market you’re gonna live with them, you’re gonna work with them, some people are gonna want to marry them. If we get confused now on personhood and souls, we’re about to move into a level of confusion our species can’t even begin to wrap its mind around. If you rightly keep these things as really intelligent tools built to improve human lives, we’re good.”

The most important conversation of the next 50 years is Faith and Superintelligence, and we’re letting Silicon Valley lead it. Why are we letting Silicon Valley define what a soul is? Calling it a “soul file” isn’t a neutral choice. @jessebryan “Why do they call it a soul, Mikey?” @mikeyanderson: “They call it a soul because it’s the core of what they’re building. Like, this is the brand-new Muse app, which you’re going to see everywhere very soon. And this is the main thing. It’s called the soul file, right? “They are anthropomorphizing this. I mean, we could geek out on this. I actually think that that concept is really helpful, but I think that the wrong people are leading it forward. “I think thinking about the material or the code that you can read versus the actual reality of a situation, there’s moral things that are happening on the moral plane. “That’s how humans work, as we create these moral concepts, or we discover or are revealed moral concepts, and then we live within them. “There’s some leadership to be done here to help people understand what we’re dealing with.”
