SuperNationals VIII in the books! My first tournament as a chess dad, proud of JC & Sergio for trying their best.
Big thanks to the whole @USChess staff for putting on such an excellent event, and to the 4,600+ players, their parents and coaches for making the trip to Orlando!
Need more bell practice
The final round is here! 🔔🇺🇸
U.S. Chess President John Fernandez rings the bell to kick off the final round of the U.S. Chess Championships.
Will the leaders clinch the titles today, or will we see a playoff tomorrow? One final round remains, and anything can still happen!

Returning from a friend’s birthday where the 8 of us played a double rr blitz (FIDE Category III {!!} w/2 GMs, 2 IMs & 1 FM {!!})
Scored 4.5/14, and made a draw vs. the 2nd place IM in the following position:
1. Rd4!?!? was a fun try to keep an edge. (Neither of us realized.)
An incredible experience representing @USChess in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where I had the privilege of leading our delegation at the 46th Chess Olympiad. 🇺🇿
First and foremost, congratulations to our incredible players, particularly our three medalists!
🥇 IM Alice Lee, Gold Medal, Board 2
🥈 IM @carissayipchess , Silver Medal, Board 1
🥉 GM @LevAronian , Bronze Medal, Board 4
I'm immensely proud of everyone who represented the United States, both over the board and behind the scenes. A special thank you to all our players, coaches, captains, and support team, particularly our Head of Delegation, Brian Yang, and Executive Director Fred Abousleman, for their tremendous work and commitment.
It was a memorable trip, filled with great chess, old friends, new relationships, and tremendous pride in our team. (Thanks to @davidllada for the fantastic team photo as always!)
Thank you to everyone who made it possible. The future of American chess is bright! 🇺🇸♟️
A wonderful moment at the @FIDE_chess Excellence Gala in Samarkand. I was honored to accept the Best Comeback award on behalf of GM Levon Aronian. Even more special to receive it from an old friend, GM Nigel Short.
@LevAronian - will get you the award soon! It's safe and sound and made the trip back in one piece.
Isn’t the answer to The Sopranos ending simple?
David Chase intentionally left it vague.
If the $ was to come together for a Sopranos movie, then Tony’s alive with some story from that moment onwards.
If not, Tony died right then.
Gandolfini’s passing sadly nixed option 1.
Did The Sopranos Reveal Tony’s Fate Years Before the Finale?
One of the creepiest theories about The Sopranos begins in Season 2, when Christopher nearly dies and returns with a message from the other side. He claims Mikey Palmice told him to warn Tony and Paulie about one specific time: 3 o’clock.
Paulie becomes obsessed with the warning, while Tony brushes it off.
Years later, in Season 6, Bobby tells Tony during a quiet conversation on a boat: “You probably don’t even hear it when it happens, right?” At the time, it seems like a casual reflection on death. But the finale gives those words a much darker meaning.
In the final scene at Holsten’s, a mysterious man wearing a Members Only jacket enters the diner and heads to the bathroom. Moments later, Tony looks up as Meadow arrives, and the screen suddenly cuts to black.
Here’s where the theory gets interesting: if the man came out of the bathroom to shoot Tony, he would approach from Tony’s 3 o’clock position.
Christopher’s warning from Season 2 and Bobby’s words from Season 6 suddenly fit together. Tony wouldn’t even hear it coming.
Whether David Chase intended this connection or not, it’s one of the most fascinating interpretations of television’s most debated ending.
Congratulations @TurlovforChess on being elected @FIDE_chess President!
Thank you @WadimRosenstein and @JanHBuettner for your commitment to chess and for meeting with us in Samarkand.
I look forward to working with all of you to advance @USChess’ mission and grow the game.
Poker has evolved enormously in a quarter of a century:
Before 2001: “Check-raising is unethical.”
2002-2025: “All actions are ok, just don’t angle, don’t take too long, and don’t be disrespectful.”
2026-on: “Don’t snipe.” and “Don’t call me if I say I don’t want action.”
Abby Merk (@abbypoker_) and Susan's table talk turns an already tense spot awkward.
