Things that I have, unfortunately learned WELL against my will about at least half the horror community:
1. None of y’all would ever bat an eye at Regan from The Exorcist (a child who had her autonomy stripped from her), Carrie (a victim of literal abuse and torment both from her mother and classmates), Jason (once a CHILD victim who died tragically), any deadites from The Evil Dead franchise, to name a few, being added, but yall draw the line at Nikki for some reason.
2. Obsession was clearly baby’s first horror movie for too many of yall, because why are we acting like Nikki is the first SA survivor to become a horror icon?
3. Y’all need everything SPOON fed to you because, why are we also having discourse on whether or not Freddy Krueger was a child molestor?
4. It’s okay for Freddy to be a child predator, but when The Grabber comes into the conversation, it’s pearl clutching time
5. Not a single one of you actually cares that the LITERAL CAST AND CREW LOVE SEEING HER ADDED
6. Too many of you care more about a literal FICTIONAL character than yall do about real life SA survivors telling you it’s actually more offensive that you only see Nikki as what happened to her.
7. You ALL need to touch grass yesterday!

Why are we reducing a character to being a “rape victim”? In trying so hard to appear woke, some of y’all lose the plot entirely. Survivors are whole people, not just their trauma. Imagine reading these tweets & seeing yourself only reduced to the worst thing that happened to you
people are overanalyzing Obsession to make themselves seem smart and woke, you are not a film bro because you understand that Nikki is a victim and Bear is a bad guy. Nikki is not a villain, she is the antagonist. there's a difference. antagonists can be scary.

Friendly reminder that Curry Baker as well as the rest of the Obssesion crew had to sign off on this, meaning they don’t care. The actress who played her doesn’t care either, yet a bunch of fake woke🥷🏾 are the ones complaining. U can tell this is a lot of y’alls first horror film

twitter's "if you were a bad person in the past it means you will never change" mindset always kills me because what do you mean you think someone didn't change after two whole years
twitter drones cannot understand the idea of self improvement and change

Being a fan of all types of comedy, old & new, "clean" & edgy, I understand (I'm not condoning/encouraging, but I understand) the "type" of jokes Shane Gillis was trying to make in his SNL monologue...but I don't think his delivery worked.
The "persona" he was playing was the sort of crude/sexist/insecure guy who would just say these controversial things out loud with no sense of propriety. That's the schtick. The schtick is not about taking the crazy things he says seriously. The schtick is this obvious "character" (who we all know some example of in real life) who will just say this stuff with no filter. It's Andrew Dice Clay, it's Cartman, etc.
However, the way Gillis delivered the set was a little "off," and the result is that this irony did not sufficiently "carry" the bit. It ended up just sounding like Gillis himself going, "hey women in gyms are like this! Haw!" And that's not supposed to be the joke. But his delivery (which was a little...the rhythm seemed weirdly "off") didn't carry the sufficient sense of irony necessary to make that work.
And so the result is a highly divisive public response that's largely between 2 camps:
1) The camp that believes not only did Shane Gillis' monologue suck & was highly offensive, but that ALL "edgy comedy" is probably also offensive & that the whole "ironic assh*le" comedy persona sucks & should be phased out.
2) The camp responding to the negative reaction of the 1st camp by fervently defending Gillis' monologue (some doing it to the degree of unironically embracing the content of the comedian's jokes).
Now, there is a smaller 3rd camp here who understand what Gillis was trying to do (but didn't fully pull off), and realizes this is all a big mess; and realizes that as the "median" 3rd camp opinion, they are like Indy Jones in the Temple of Doom movie in the middle of that rickety bridge w/angry peeps on both sides of him & concludes he probably shoulda just not said anything at all.

The Shane Gillis bit on SNL wasn't very funny. Not that it was offensive - it was pretty standard observational humor- but it just wasn't that funny. It wasnt well constructed, and the delivery was weak.
Dave Chappelle made the exact same joke here and absolutely killed it. Just an absolute master of his craft.

I just think that if we’re going to make society more progressive it’s not gonna start with stand-up comedy

I don't understand the people complaining about Wild Card games being played in the afternoon.
I've seen what your productivity at the office looks like during March Madness.
Now all of a sudden you're a device-less Amish construction worker on the job site all day?
