Marcus Townend Fundraiser
About Marcus
After time with local newspapers and the Sporting Life, he worked for the Daily Mail for 35 years, graduating to becoming its racing editor and correspondent – a diligent, principled, talented and tenacious journalist.
Marcus's accident
It is nearly a year since Marcus fell off his bike and suffered the first of three bleeds in his brain. Three months later, he had gradually recovered well enough from the first two to spend a month at home. The third bleed, which occurred at the end of March, following a plate insertion to repair his skull, proved the most damaging, from which he is still recuperating. Too late, he was finally diagnosed in July to have mild haemophilia. Despite his amazing determination to communicate clearly, self care and mobilise, he will require ongoing neurophysiotherapy and much care from others to achieve his independent potential.
How you can help?
This year's HWPA Derby Awards Lunch (Monday 7th December) will be combined with a fundraiser for Marcus..

This platform has removed the offending tweet already (I think) but I'm going to leave this screen grab here simply to highlight the regular crap some of us have to endure for doing our jobs

So.... £2,485 on glasses for a PM was "sleaze rotting our politics to the core" but £72,000,000 in a single day for Nigel Farage is celebrated as hitting "the jackpot" and a "war chest..."

While the Mirror team are technically our rivals, it’s great for racing that the Sun, Star and now DM are giving the sport more coverage. Some papers have disgracefully given up on racing, but it can always count on the support of the red tops
This has been a long time coming but delighted that we can give @DailyMirror readers much more racing coverage from tomorrow @MirrorSport @thebedfordfox @sjracingmedia @olibellracing @AndyMacMorrin

The term “witch hunt” is overused in politics. Perhaps not this time. Quite a bit of the British media should ask themselves some serious questions as to whether the tenor and volume of the coverage they gave to this man was remotely proportionate. Likewise there are questions for Cambridge- and whether they discharged their duty of care.
JASON ARDAY has been found dead.
Arday was found “unresponsive” at an address in Battersea on Friday afternoon. He was later pronounced dead.
A spokesman for the Met said officers were called by the London Ambulance Service at 3.12 p.m.
“Sadly, a 41-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.
At this time his death is being treated as unexpected, but is not believed to be suspicious. The case is being investigated by officers from the Met’s Central South Command Unit. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
