This is extremely poor. The opposition bloc is not centrist leaning and definitely not left leaning. It contains some very right wing candidates. In temrs of policy regarding Palestinians there is little difference at all
The BBC’s Middle East correspondent frames the Israeli elections as Netanyahu against “leftist” and “centrist” figures like Eisenkot, whom she describes as “softly spoken” and “lowkey”.
What she leaves out is that he’s a former general and the architect of the Dahiyeh Doctrine, which calls for disproportionate force and deliberate targeting of civilians and their infrastructure.
In what world is that left wing?

🇵🇸 Israeli forces seized Dr. Mazen al-Rantisi, a 71-year-old Ramallah family doctor known as the "Doctor of the Poor," from his home in Ramallah's al-Tira neighborhood at dawn on June 21. In August, a lawyer for the Detainees Affairs Commission relayed his account of his detention in Ofer prison:
▪️ He was denied his regular medications for his first 10 days and was still without one medication he desperately needs.
▪️ His repeated requests to see a doctor were refused. His only exam was a pulse check through an opening in his cell door.
▪️ He lost a large amount of weight on food he described as scant and unfit to eat.
▪️ Detainees were forced to walk bent over with their hands shackled, made to kneel four times a day during roll calls, insulted and beaten.
▪️ At least 10 detainees were crammed into cells with six beds, amid raids with beatings and tear gas, mold, insects and no cleaning supplies. He was still wearing the clothes he was arrested in.
For more than four decades, al-Rantisi charged patients 30 shekels (about $8) or less, waived fees for those who couldn't pay and answered medical questions by phone for free, often late at night. The Palestinian Prisoners' Club, which received him in Hebron, said signs of beating were visible on his body.

💢Palestinian “doctor of the poor,” released after 4 months in Israeli torture prisons
Israeli authorities released Dr. Mazen Al-Rantisi, 71, from Ganot prison after more than four months in detention, with visible bruises and signs of physical assault, according to photos and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society.
Al-Rantisi is widely known in the occupied West Bank as the “doctor of the poor.” He was arrested during a predawn raid on his Ramallah home on June 21, and his family was never informed of any reason.
Israeli media reports suggested his detention was linked to his role as chair of the Union of Health Work Committees, a Palestinian healthcare organization Israel designated an “unlawful association” in 2020.

I am following with concern the grave humanitarian situation in Yemen, particularly in the city of Taiz, where the population is suffering from a lack of food, water and medical care.
