news from #AAIC25 marks a moment so many of us in the Alzheimer’s and dementia scientific community have long hoped for. We can now say with confidence that lifestyle interventions can protect brain health in diverse communities in the U.S.
📣 Today is a turning point in what we know about brain health. The results from the U.S. POINTER trial provide the rigorous data needed to say with confidence that healthy behaviors can meaningfully protect brain health across diverse populations in the U.S. The findings, shared for the first time today at #AAIC25, tested lifestyle programs that simultaneously targeted risk factors. The programs focused on: ✅👟Aerobic exercise ✅🧠Cognitive engagement ✅🥗Nutrition ✅🫀Health Monitoring U.S. POINTER is the largest research commitment the Association has made in its history. The landmark results are testament to our commitment to our mission. Thank you to the study participants, our community, our donors, and the staff who made these findings possible. alz.org/USPOINTERresults

‼️Alert‼️Massive open dataset release!! The world’s largest proteomics dataset for neurodegenerative disease, including: * 250M+ protein measurements * 35,000 biosamples * 23 contributing cohorts * +50 harmonized clinical variables * AD / PD / FTD / ALS / Normal Aging 1/
Analyses from the largest neurodegeneration focused proteomics database - the Global Neurodegeneration Proteomics Consortium @_neuroproteome are published today in @NatureMedicine and @NatureAging The findings reveal unique protein biomarkers that correlate with @neurodegenerative diseases and the @ageing process, and may help with the early detection, and improve outcomes, of major neurodegenerative diseases. PART and CTE display several similarities in protein expression that are distinct from AD, perhaps in relation to lower levels of beta-amyloid … which could be secondary to the maintenance of expression of proteins involved in proteostasis and beta-amyloid processing.

However, there are differences in protein expression between PART and CTE in the hippocampus, including NeuN which is high in definite PART but low in CTE, certain microglial markers, and proteins involved in response to oxidative stress or mitochondrial damage.

Major messages of our recent paper: Neurodegenerative proteins affect different subregions of the hippocampus; copathology alters the pattern; The load of protein increase until a peak but in the highest stages it decreases with the loss of neurons. See: doi.org/10.1002/alz.14355
