Ever since Musk’s takeover, I’ve said that eventually I’d become an ex-user.
Either he didn’t think this through enough to consider what users would be called, or he thinks the inevitable term “x-user” is somehow cool, so obviously it’s a great idea.

Extrapolating forward based on these trends & outcomes while accounting for public statements from those involved about future directions indicates that this will all get worse.
Elon & co. always wanted a global version of China’s siloed ecosystem to enable tech-driven dystopia.
The biggest challenge up to this point has been the lack of an authoritarian dictatorship to force us all to use it - because why ELSE would we?

As the platform’s credibility bursts into flame & Elon flails about trying to un-fuck each of his mistakes with half-assed ideas that cause more problems, I’d like to remind everyone that the Twitter Verification program initially began because Kanye was mad about impersonators.
I remember 2 things from when I arrived at MEPS: The guy who was having us fill out our paperwork talked about how we were getting good pens because there was a Republican President (W had been in office about 3 months, so, lol) & a poster that said “Freedom Isn’t Free.”
I won’t ever get a little blue checkmark, be “verified” or pay for “Twitter Premium,” “TwitLuxe” or any other dumb thing like it.
If you feel like paying a nominal fee for good social media, counter.social exists & is fully supported by that model. No ads or bullshit.
