This is fucking insane. It reads like a bad spy novel. The corruption is almost cartoonish at this point.
The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k…

Thought for the day. Trump and Maga have engaged in an enormous amount of norm breaking. And, I think hurt out country in the process. Lots of people say this. They then follow up with: "and once broken, norms are hard to re-establish." And they leave it at that.

Here is an academic growth industry for you -- norms are hard to re-establish. We all agree. But they can be. So, how are better norms established, re-established, strengthen after being assaulted?

Based on my tweets here is my world, here’s the image of the world that emerges: A thoughtful, classical-liberal perspective that prizes deep education, high culture, and liberal democracy over pure vocationalism or political pettiness.

The fundamentals of liberal democracy. You’re critical of reducing higher ed to job training, of baseless political theater, and of threats (especially Trump-era ones) that feel qualitatively different from ordinary disagreements.

Comments like this make me sad. I am not talking about the Trump issue. I am talking about the belief that higher education is simply a vocational form of education.
I disagree with Trump on almost everything but this is a good move.

This is both petty and stupid.
The US State Department lobby used to display the flags of the roughly 200 countries with which the US maintains diplomatic relations. Now, it displays 200 American flags, to remind State Department employees who they work for.

This guy claims Obama is not American and he thinks Obama is causing the division. He doesn’t even see it.

Whatever it once was and whatever exceptions still exist, can we all agree that TedTalks today are essentially designed to glibly flatter the prejudices of its audience?

Sam Bowman’s posts are tediously boring. But if someone could put together a single highlight tweet I will devote 20 seconds to reading him.
This is nice, but the truth is that traditional (pre-musical theatre) opera is very very boring. The best way to help people enjoy it would be to put on “the best of opera” nights that just do the highlight songs and drop the terrible 3-hour plots in between them.

I have decided to quit all my teachings job, take all my money and dedicate the remainder of my life to amending the US Constitution to revise the 7th Amendment, requiring that a federal jury trial must involve a disputed amount of $750. Who is with me!

Trump's name will be easily erased and pried from buildings after he is gone. But the stench will linger for decades.
