Latest episode of @JohnandSarahIrl crossed 40,000 plays on Youtube and 10,000 or so on other platforms. Blown away by that.
You can't have the Captain tossing the Manager under the bus. He should be benched for this.
Fernandes to TNT: 'It's a decision from the staff to not press man to man and sometimes leave space behind and try to get the ball... That (whether Carrick and the staff got their tactics wrong)'s on the manager and staff to see, not me.' #mufc

I have really excellent news for you. SR books are available to the public through libraries, charity stores and any book store should SR and her publishers wish to sell them there.

OPEN LETTER: Sally Rooney is a writer, not a terrorist. Her books must be available to the public. Their withdrawal from sale, on the basis of ill-conceived and draconian anti terror legislation, is an affront to basic principles of free speech and expression so long taken for granted in this country. We categorically reject censorship - whether direct or indirect - and urge the government to change course, amending the legislation which has led us to this point of repressive absurdity.

I want to live in the country where you have to withdraw your own books from sale, to get censored.
Fuck me that's freedom right there.
The latest ad from the Irish Government to the Irish people, who are the font of all problems in the country and desperately need to be stopped from their bad behaviour.
This time, it's hugging your grandkids.
If you've listened to the radio today you'll have heard the gloomy news about the latest climate reports - just about the only long-term problem anyone in Irish politics is interested in.

The only foreseeable problem that is decades away that the Irish Government wishes to fix is Climate Change.
Why? Precisely because it's not an Irish problem, writes John:

I find this open letter interesting.
The premise of the letter is that Sally Rooney belongs to a class of individuals who should be treated differently from all other citizens.
Ordinary people are not allowed to support Palestine Action. And if they do, there are consequences. But Sally Rooney apparently belongs - if we are to believe the open letter - to a group of people who are exempt from ordinary laws and rules. That is why she should be allowed to support Palestine Action.
I have always had the feeling that there exists a group of artists and intellectuals who consider themselves members of an elevated caste. It is a feeling that is hard to prove — but here it is.
It is clear from the French media that the riots in France are, to a certain extent, caused by extremely privileged people who like to play the game of hating France and the West.
We need to break the vicious circle in which a small group of extremely privileged people can play this parlour game, when they meet each other, of hating Western civilisation.
I understand the need to play parlour games. But this parlour game - which very much resembles the salon communism of the Soviet era - is dangerous.
The fact is that there are a great many non-literary, non-intellectual and, frankly, uneducated people out in society who are completely unaware that all this is a game for educated people. They simply take it seriously, which was never the intention.
And then they rampage and plunder their way through France.
That is why I think we should do Sally Rooney the honour of taking her seriously.

Donald Trump seems to think that what Americans have always wanted in a President was someone who would slobber over Russia and send his toadies to slobber over Russia.
I suspect the voters will correct him on that in a fortnight.
Paul is one of the most interesting thinkers in Ireland.
The rise of AI forces us to confront what it means to be human, argues Paul Kingsnorth, a leading Christian critic of the AI 'machine'. Religion has the answer, he says in this clip. (Watch the full interview here: youtube.com/watch?v=o3klxw1m…).

"The thing about modern Ireland that the people who love modern Ireland never stop telling us is that it is a better place than 1930’s Ireland.
First, that’s not a high bar: We’re vastly richer and better educated.
Second, despite that not being a high bar, we’re not even meeting it on our own core measurements of – let me check my notes here, oh yes – not letting children be abused.
Third, the person we’ve put in charge of this great project of being better than the nuns is Norma Foley, which is not what a serious country does."

Remember the SERP report that revealed a lot of this stuff to almost no reaction? We care much more about the abuses from decades ago than today.

Have you heard the one where the 14 year old girl is being exploited by a bunch of men; the gardai know; the judge is appealing for Ministers to help; and yet nothing at all is being done?

I don't normally get so angry I could scream, but the latest Tusla outrage really should bring down the Government. Albert Reynolds' Government fell for far less. Credit to Kitty Holland for at least caring:

Sally Rooney has managed to take supporting a group that attacks policewomen with sledgehammers into the press re-casting her as the new Salman Rushdie - don't under-estimate her genius, says LP:

This is truly astonishing. RTE has managed to find 3 liberal white Irish women in Paris to tell you how the riots are only a few people and the protestors are really all a great bunch of lads. facebook.com/share/v/1KCg9NJ…
